One of the recurring themes I noticed was the idea of willingness on the part of all those involved in collaboration, co-teaching, and consultation. This makes sense; if all parties do not have an attitude of willingly working with colleagues, neither collaboration, co-teaching, or consultation will be successful. The school district where they both teach expects, at a minimum, weekly collaboration meetings within grade levels, and both teachers have consulted with colleagues regarding particular student needs. However, both stated that they would not be comfortable with co-teaching. It is not something they have experience with.

One of my respondents referred to consultation only within the context of special education students in general education classrooms, and all of her answers regarding consultation referred to that between a special education teacher and a general education teacher. My other respondent did not specify any situations in which consultation may occur, leading me to conclude that she sees consultation as being possible in various contexts.
