The Mekong River helps people socialise with each other. The Mekong River holds markets for people to trade, buy and interact with each other. Some of the people who sell items in the market live on a boat on the Mekong River. There are around about 60 million people that live along the Mekong River. the first ever recording of civilization around the Mekong River was around 2100 BC. About 700 years ago the Thai people escaped South China. The Mekong River helped the escape. The French once explored the Mekong River between 1866 to 1868 and found that the Mekong River had extreme amounts of rapids and waterfalls to be used for navigation. The Mekong River provides many jobs for humans like fisheries, farming, trade, hydroelectricity plants, dams, markets for people. The Mekong River brings down fertile soil down to the mouth of the Mekong River which is perfect for growing crops to sell.

Over-fishing in the Mekong River has endangered native fishes like the Irrawaddy dolphin. There are as few as 34 Irrawaddy dolphins in the Mekong River. This has been caused by humans because they take things and never give things back in return. Humans use nets to catch the fish which can damage the river floor. The effect that humans have made is messing up food chains which then starve or even kill some animals causing a catastrophe. Humans should stop fishing so many fish and should only fish with rods and stick to the baging and length rule which would reduce the amount of fish caught per year significantly.
