I did not know before starting this course that there was so much that went into reading and rewiring the brain to be able to read. It isn't something as simple as a student just picking it up right away. It takes a lot of support, and it definitely makes you appreciate the English language and its rules when it comes to reading and speaking. I will be using and referring back to this information as much as possible for my students.

As we learned about print awareness, I realized how often we take for granted the simple act of knowing how a book works. For young students, these concepts are brand new and very empowering. I plan to integrate print awareness into daily routines. Like pointing to words during the read aloud and labeling classroom objects. I especially love the idea of movement and music to reinforce directionality and book handling skills. This module reminded me that literacy begins before we really realize it and it begins with just noticing.
