The rebel leaders were arrested and stood trial for high treason but Melbourne juries refused to convict them. The Royal Commission reprimanded the goldfield administration and upheld the miners' injustices, claiming that the miners should be politically represented. This marked the beginning of the modern Australia democracy and eventually the abolition of convict transportation.

Lieutenant-Governor, Charles La Trobe visited the site and watched five men uncover 136 ounces of gold in one day. This was occurring approximately between 1851 and the late 1860s.

By May, half of Sydney seemed to have left for the goldfields and there was a sensation in July when the Kerr Nugget was found.  It weighed a whole hundredweight of gold.
