Hospitals are a place to go when you’re sick to get treatment, but did you know that in the United States, more than 2 million people are affected by hospital-acquired infections every year, and 100,000 people die as a result. and it costs an estimated $20 billion to treat these infections.

One area that can help dramatically is the ability to input data without actually touching physical devices such as keyboards, the mouse, etc. I remember last time I went to the dentist they put their gloves on as standard procedure and checked my teeth, but as they reached for the keyboard to input their findings they touched the mouse and keyboard which had no disposable cover. The main issue is that these input devices are swiped with a disinfectant cloth but are not cleaned properly. Imagine how many germs from 100’s of patients are collecting in the crevices.

holographic input - keyboard

A holographic data input like a keyboard or mouse may help reduce the amount of infections people are exposed to.

Some people may say this does not feel natural and like the ability to physically touch keyboard keys or other inputs so a company out of TOKYO, HaptoMime, uses reflective surfaces to create a floating virtual screen that you can actually feel. The technology is in its infancy but may hold some promise.

Advancements in technology have dramatically improved the efficiency of the agricultural industry, leading to our hopes for a better world increasing.
Efficiency of the agricultural industry means there will be less effort needed to create more food, which is vital for the quality of life of people, especially in less developed countries where people die of starvation due to lack of food.
One example of the advancement in technology changing the agricultural industry would be high tech vegetable farm. Vegetables grow indoors vertically in towers several meters high in Singapore. This leads to less land usage needed for farming, proving beneficial to areas with limited land space.
Another example is the GM rice BRRI Dhan-33, created by scientists in Bangladesh. It can mature in 118 days, faster than the more commonly used BR-11. Short duration crops can help farmers fight seasonal hunger and mitigate the risks of crop losses from natural disasters.
Significant because 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy, active life.12.9% of the world population is undernourished. Furthermore, creating food for humans currently put a strain on natural resources, with 38% of the world's total land used for agriculture, and 70% of global freshwater consumption is used for crops. Thus, these advancements are required for us to have an increased hope of having a better world.

advancements in technology have improved healthcare capabilities which helps to achieve greater medical services to allow the sick to recover. with increased advancements in technology, new inventions and tools has been made to allow diseases to be studied better and to gain better understanding of the virus. It has opened up new pathways for curing diseases. For example, The understanding of diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's is set to take a step forward following groundbreaking technology at which will enable cell analysis using automated 3D microscopy. "Scientists and clinicians will be able to superimpose multiple data sets in three dimensions using automated techniques and then conduct detailed analysis of the data in a far improved way from the two dimensional microscopy that is currently available," said Dr Adrian Meedeniya, manager of Griffith's Imaging and Image Analysis Facility. "We will be able to use this technology to rapidly increase our understanding of the way neuro-degenerative disorders affect nerve cell function in the brain." This suggests that through the use of new technology, it has opened up a new way to analyse and study data so as to find a cure or way to tackle the problem.

Advancements in robotic technology has enabled improvements in research and development which allows us to grant ourselves with greater knowledge on what had happened to cause past events such as the crashing of airplanes into the ocean as well as identifying problems invisible to the naked eye. The data found will be able supply research with new information and possibly new discoveries as well as to refine the development of robotic technology. For example, there have been many robots based on animals' features. A recent development is a tiny robot made of sea slug muscles and 3D printed parts which is also known as a hybrid robot. When the muscles were subjected to an external electric field, the resulting contractions produced a deliberate clawing motion that was able to move the tiny robot up to 0.5 centimetres per minute. It had been modeled after the way sea turtles crawl. With a few more developments, the scientists said, teams of robots could be deployed for tasks such as searching for underwater leaks or finding an airplane's "black box" flight recorder after crashing into the ocean. Hence, this is significant as it allows for research to be done without exposing people to the elements and endangering their lives. However, an implication which this technology faces is the fact that robots are unable to relate some observations which can only be made by man.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations also says that farmers can grow more food on less land with genetically modified crops.

Genetically modified animals have certain genes inserted into their genomes so that they can produce ‘better’ milk, eggs, and meat. These animals also are expected to have a higher resistance to disease and overall better health, with better natural waste management. In theory, genetically modified crops and animals will also be more environmentally friendly because they conserve water, soil, and energy.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations states that one of the positives of GMOs is that farmers can produce more nutritious food. Many foods are in the works for bio-fortification for this reason. Rice, for example, feeds 50 percent of the world’s population, so genetically modifying rice to have more vitamin A would reduce vitamin A deficiency in developing countries.

Too much chatter, too little real conversation. Therefore, this has caused the lack of interaction between people and might hinder the progress of our nation

Our hopes for the future has increased due to the increased in convenience and quality of life. we are able to connect to one another faster with the advancements in technology. As the next step in the continuous innovation and evolution of the mobile industry, 5G will not only be about a new air interface with faster speeds, but it will also address network congestion, energy efficiency, cost, reliability, and connection to billions of people and devices. In 2014 we heard of new antenna/RF technologies (Massive MIMO, wider bandwidths), proposed deployment of small cells in higher mmWave frequencies, shorter transmission time intervals, reduced latency, and possibly new modulation methods beyond OFDM. With a 2020 commercialization horizon, 2015 be the year when we move from these concepts to technology trials and standards development. And we shall see if/how this year’s ITU World Radio Conference (WRC-15) tackles 5G’s spectrum aspects.

Advancements in medical and pharmaceutical technology has significantly improved the quality of healthcare services, eliminate more diseases and reduced mortality rates. This in turn improved the physical well-being of people and prolonged lifespans, therefore arousing more optimism for a better world. For example, in the case of three-dimensional organ printing. The world currently faces a dearth of organ donors to fulfill the voraciously increasing demand for organs that millions of people lack of. Three-dimensional organ printing makes use of human stem cells to physically print human stem cells to physically print a human organ at low costs. As this technology advances, it potentially solve the problem of organ shortage and eliminate associated problems such as illegal organ trading in the black market. Another example of such a technology is Zepatier, a new pill that cures Hepatitis C patients with a 92-99% success rate. With such groundbreaking technology, millions of lives could be saved by these cures, prolonging human life. This, advancements in technology in the medical and pharmaceutical section have increased our hopes for a better future.
