         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>1886- graduated from West point Military Academy; 30th in his class</li><li>1890- afforded the opportunity to fight in the Apache Band / Ghost Dance War</li><li>1890- Appointed at the University of Nebraska as Chief Military instructor; also received law degree during assignment</li><li>1898- Rejoined the 10th Cavalry at the battle of San Juan Hills</li><li>1899- War Dept. shifted him to Mindanao to execute the "benevolent assimilation" to provide economical and stability in the region</li><li>1906- Promoted from Captain to Brigadier General by President Theodore Roosevelt; jumping over 862 officers ahead of him </li><li>1909 to 1913- He served as the Military governor of Moro Province</li><li>1914- Ordered to the Mexican border to assist with American Sailors held in detention in Tampico / beginning of U.S occupation of Vera Cruz</li><li>1917- Entered in to World War I and became the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) Commander</li><li>1919- Promoted to General of the Armies</li><li>1921- Appointed as Chief of Staff</li><li>1924- Final retirement from Active Duty</li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>To be a Great Commander; one must best understand and exploit his realities of warfare; as practiced at his time.</li><li>Gen. Pershing always maximized the resources provided to him, and ensure he utilized every advantage possible to protect the live of his Soldiers; and to meet mission success for the American people. </li><li>In my opinion Gen. Black Jack Pershing had an inspirational life and career; and it obviously paid for him to be connected in the pursuit to meeting his life goals.  </li><li>Ultimately, he contributed a lot to our history and the shaping of our relationship with our allies.</li></ul>]]></description>
