It was an ordinary day. Private detective John Cramer was sitting in his old chair and was waiting for a new deal. His assistant Criss Roland was drinking coffee and was reading a newspaper, he was very nervous that day and when detective tried to ask what happened with him, he just answered that he hadn’t slept well last night.

Suddenly the phone rang. Detective answered. He got up and went to the door. “Come, Criss, we have a new case, Robert Thornberry was found hanged in his flat by neighbor.” - said Detective – “And take my notebook from my table”. “Ok, detective” - answered Criss. “Criss, where is your favorite watches?” – asked Detective. “Oh, I don’t know, I might have left it at home”.

When detective and his assistant arrived at the crime scene, police and neighbor David Anderson was waiting for them. David Anderson was very similar to the Criss Roland: the same tall, slender, beefy man. The police officer conducted a detective and his assistant to the flat and went to interrogate others neighbors. John Cramer began to inspect the crime scene and after two minutes he said “It’s not suicide, it’s murder”. “Why did you decide so?” – asked Criss Roland. “Well, the ceilings are too high for the Robert Thornberry to hang himself on the chandelier; the sofa has faded and bent in two places, which means that two people gathered here; next to a bottle of whiskey there are no glasses, which means that someone threw them out; the newspapers that bought this person are all open on the lottery page; bought whiskey is far from cheap, unlike everything else in the room and finally the flat is full of disorder as if someone was looking for something” “Oh, yes, detective. You are right” John Cramer continued inspect the room. When he looked place around the sofa, he suddenly said “Well, I need to talk to the officer, may be they found something?”

“Officer, have you already inspected crime scene?” – asked Detective?

“Yes, but we found only this. That’s why we called you” – answered officer.

Officer gave the detective a photo. “We found it in the trash can”

“I also found something. This photo confirmed my assumption. I know who the murderer is.”

“Murderer?” – asked police officer.

“Yes. Please call a David Anderson and come back. I’ll explain everything”

…

When everyone gathered in the room, John Cramer started with one question.
- "Mr. Anderson does you know the Robert had friends?"
- "I do not know for sure, but sometimes from Mr. Thornberry 's flat i heard two male voices one belonged to Robert, and second I did not know, I never saw that man"
-"Well, as I said to my assistant, it was definitely murder. Look at the whiskey. It is very expensive, as far as I understand Mr. Thornberry lived poorly, is it Mr. Anderson? - "Yes you are right" - but notice, all newspapers are open on the page with lotteries. I'm sure shortly before Mr. Thornberry was killed, he won a lottery and called friend to celebrate this"
- "You said you already know who the killer is. Who is he? " – asked officer.
- "Look at this photo..Mr. Roland, why didn’t you say that you were familiar with Robert, you studied with him. This is you on the left in the third row on the graduation photo"
- "But..but I haven’t seen him for a long time"
- "Yes! I think it's yours, isn’t it? I found them when I inspected the room. This morning you said you left them at home."
Criss Roland was arrested on the spot. As the detective explained later. He works with the crisis not so long, but always heard from him complaints about a miserable poor life.
