I would recommend this book to another high school student. It is a very well written novel, but it takes some thinking to be able to understand. This book is definitely meant for romantics who love a good love story.

"A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony, in a moment." (page 23)
This is a quote from Mr.
Darcy about his views on relationships and love at the beginning of the novel. Overtime Mr. Darcy's views on love and relationships change. This is important to the theme because it shows how romance impacts someones life.

Who is the antagonist (bad guy) in your book? Describe this character and the way they “oppose”, or work against, the main character.
Start out: The antagonist of my book is…

There are many different antagonists in this book. I am going to focus on Lady Catherine de Bourgh and her objection on Mr. Darcy’s and Elizabeth’s relationship. Mr. Darcy was arranged to marry Lady Catherine's daughter, Miss de Bourgh. When Lady Catherine finds out about Mr. Darcy wanting to engage Elizabeth, she confronts Elizabeth at her home. Lady Catherine says, “‘ Let me be rightly understood. This match, to which you have the presumption to aspire, can never take place. No, never. Mr. Darcy is engaged to my daughter. Now what have you to say?’” (page 320) Lady Catherine questions Elizabeth very throughly about their relationship. She forbids them to be together. She does not approve of Elizabeth’s social status or family connections. Lady Catherine asks Elizabeth to promise not to marry Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth refuses to make any promises, but this secretly pleases her to know that Mr. Darcy really does like her. Lady Catherine calls Elizabeth some very rude things like “slighted, and despised, by everyone connected with him. Your alliance will be a disgrace.” (page 321) and “Unfeeling, selfish girl! Do you not consider that a connection with you must disgrace him in the eyes of everybody.” (page 323) In the end, Mr. Darcy ignores Lady Catherine and marries Elizabeth anyways.
