In most paintings, we see of Adam and Eve they have belly buttons. When in reality, they should not have a belly button because they did not have an umbilical cord. God created man in his image, and he created Adam from mud and breathed life into him. Then he created Eve by taking a rib from Adam when he was in a deep sleep. With this evidence given in Genisis, we can conclude that Adam and Eve did not have belly buttons.

This painting is important to the story of Adam and Eve because it exhibits the actions of all characters (Adam, Eve, and the Devil) in the story of The Fall. The serpent (Devil) can be seen at the top of the painting. The serpent can be seen looking at Eve because he has successfully deceived her into taking the apple. Eve is handing the apple to Adam. Eve appears to be pressuring Adam into taking the apple. The serpent told Eve that by eating the apple she will have more knowledge, so Eve is relaying this information to Adam. Adam is seen taking the apple, but his appearance says he is unsure of his actions. Adam is unsure about taking the apple because God specifically told him not to, but Eve told him that he will gain knowledge.

Despite the fact that both Adam and Eve are given one specific rule to follow, they disobey their restrictions to go beyond their paradise, to the forbidden tree, to find further meaning in their life, which the visual directly establishes. The audience can interpret that everything surrounding Adam and Eve is very colorful and not dismal; however, both Adam and Eve choose to enter the area where the tree is in its lonesome, where the colors no longer exist. The absence of the Lego flowers enhances the idea that the territory is marked off. This reiterates the idea that when one eats from the forbidden tree, death and darkness arise into the world. Eve has the desire to go beyond the picturesque world, while Adam just follows the lead of Eve’s. Eve, in the image, holds the apple and the audience can identify the superiority in the relationship. Eve is the one who instigates the drastic change in their relationship and for the life to come. This image characterizes the original Genesis that most people believe, where
the Garden of Eden, along with the serpent, are truly present and part of how mankind is shaped today.

This image shows Eve offering the forbidden fruit to Adam. You can also see the serpent, also know as the devil, in this image. The serpent convinced Eve into eating the apple knowing that this action was forbidden by God. Eve chooses to bite into the apple. After she does this, she offers the fruit to Adam. This image shows Adam reaching out with his hand to grab the fruit. Even though Eve was deceived by the serpent, she willingly picked the apple. She was not forced to bite into the fruit and neither was Adam. Once they commit this sin, Adam and Eve have gained more knowledge and a new outlook on life.
-Alexis Zachary

Adam seems more distraught then Eve in this photo. I believe that because Adam has a direct link to the lord while Eve is only bonded to Adam. It looks as if the lord is showing them they way out of the garden. Eve knows there is a whole world out there to be discovered because her curiosity gets the best of her. In this photo, her curiosity costed them to get kicked out of the garden which once they called home. That's because she ate and gave Adam the forbidden fruit of the garden because she thought it held knowledge and wisdom. But them leaving leads to other places and things in the world being discovered.

The artist portrays Adam as being unable to take responsibility for eating the fruit. He is painted as if he is gesturing towards Eve, seemingly blaming her for giving him the fruit. Adam is also the center of the painting, by being in the middle of Eve and God as well as standing at a middle level. Some people may interpret this as Eve being solely responsible for banishing humans from the Garden of Eden, but some may also interpret this as Adam being seen as partially responsible for the downfall of mankind due to him being the center of the painting. It also could show how some people view men and women as result of the eating of the fruit; men tend to be more intense, stronger, and more superior to women (due to Adam being closer to God) while women tend to be more sympathetic, meeker, and are at the hand of their husbands (due to Eve shrinking away from God and being below Adam).

This cartoon represents the time after the fall, when Adam blames Eve for them being banished from the Garden. The artist captures Adam's anger, and the guilt within Eve. Eve listened to the devil instead of Adam, who had a direct link to God. Adam thinks of the Garden as his own "heaven" until Eve arrived and ruined everything for him. Eve was created from Adam's rib, and after blaming her for them both eating from the forbidden tree, he no longer wants her around. It's ironic because in the end of Twain's version, Adam says "Wherever she is, there's Eden."

This painting of Adam & Eve is a great image because it has the serpent represented for who it really is and that is the Devil. "When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it" (Genesis 3). This line from Genesis is the one that is being shown in this picture, it shows how eve takes the fruit and gives it to both her and Adam to eat while the devil watches from in the tree to watch his deed unfold. This painting also lead to the very moment when sin was brought into the world but with that sin coming into the world we now have the world that we have today.

Said's work is an important 'text' for Adam and Eve because it provides a more romantic and ethically inclusive portrayal of this narrative than other artwork of the same story. The artist painted the scene of Adam and Eve in a way that shows the romantic chemistry between Adam and Eve that other works do not touch on. Said also decided to paint this know work in an Egyptian landscape with the characters having different skin shades to allow viewers of many ethnicities to be able to connect with the story of Adam and Eve.

In this photo it shows Adam very upset. He is more so than Eve. I believe this is because Adam was made from God. Thus making him closer to God. Eve looks to be holding onto Adam while it seems he is trying to get away. This is most likely shown to demonstrate Adam blaming Eve. God looks to be forcing them out of the heavens/ Garden of Eden because they disobeyed what he told them.

They look like the early stages of man according to the popular picture of evolution "March of Progress." This one however, does not.

In this painting of Adam and Eve, the artist chose not to focus on the fall from Eden, rather, they chose to represent what happened afterwards. In the background, the immediate aftermath of the fall is portrayed, where after God drove them out of paradise, "...he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way..." (Genesis 3). The focal point of this piece, however, is on Adam and Eve with their sons Cain and Abel. It is clear which child is which as Cain is holding onto Eve's side, standing within the shadows and casting his gaze downward towards the ground, imitating the actions of a guilty child, portraying his future guilt of being consumed by darkness and committing sin. Abel is being held up on Eve's shoulder putting him above Cain, thus receiving more light, and he's looking straight at the viewer with an innocent smile, which represents his gentle nature and his future favoritism by God. He is also pushing away from Eve a little bit, separating himself from her and showing that he is determined to be stronger than her in resisting sin. It is important to note that only Eve and Cain wearing dark crowns upon their heads, showcasing them as the sinners they are or will become. Finally, it is important to note that Adam and Eve themselves can be interpreted in a number a ways. My interpretation is that Adam still longs for the days back in Eden as his gaze seems to be focused on the past while Eve has accepted their new lives and is ready to move on into this unknown reality as portrayed by the black background behind her, the children being on Eve and nowhere near Adam, and her impatient stare directed at Adam, waiting for him to accept their new reality as well.

This image shows Eve taking the apple. She looks at the serpent/devil, depicted here as a child, and the apple with a dazed expression, whilst Adam looks at her almost panicked. He is shown trying to push her back, as though to make her aware of her actions or force her to think. This is an important work, as it shows Adam's reluctance and unhappiness with Eve's choses, though he does not actively prevent her. He could have knocked her hand away, but instead he looks on. He is also present as this occurs, which suggests that he wasn't tricked into eating the apple, as some versions suggest. --Zoe Deenihan

This picture is showing the remorse after the apple was eaten. This shows importance because from my point of view, Eve is recognizing she is naked, and trying to cover herself this is after God has spawned Adam and Eve because they ate the forbidden fruit. Adam and Eve have committed the first original sin. This picture is showing them leaving the garden, with a slumped back and looking as if they are crying, and realizing what they did was wrong.

This image shows Adam, portrayed by Homer Simpson, being the one tempted by the snake to eat the forbidden food. Most pictures/artwork of Adam and Eve show Eve being the one who is tempted and who takes the forbidden fruit from the snake and Adam putting his arm out to "stop her." Most media of Adam and Eve is displayed that way because that is how it is written in Genesis. Although it is playing off of Homer Simpson's love of donuts, this picture shows Adam being tempted and Eve being the one who is shocked by the want to eat something that is forbidden. Most forms of media don't have it that way because it strays from the original story. This picture allows a person to realize/think that Adam could have also been tempted and that the whole reason for original sin and death being brought into the world could have possibly been put all on Adam. -Catherine Kane

This image caught my attention for a few reasons. One, it doesn't look like a traditional depiction of Adam and Eve but the scattered apples, snake, naked man and woman, and jungle background on the garage door are giveaways. Two, this is clearly a modern, urban setting, which is much different than the classic serene jungle in which we are used to imagining Adam and Eve. I believe the numerous eaten apples on the ground represent a feeling of hopelessness after The Fall, and the idea that since sin has now been introduced to the world, there's no use trying to fight it. The artist may have intended these people to be the real Adam and Eve, or perhaps they are supposed to be two modern individuals. Since we only see Eve eating an apple in this image, despite the many differences, it still seems like Adam is getting off the hook for The Fall.

This image seems to depict Adam, Eve, and Cain in Mark Twain's Diary of Adam and Eve. It feels like it would during the time that Adam says in his diary "Wheresoever she was, there was Eden" which from the background of the picture it looks like it could be a paradise. So essentially they ended up creating their own paradise with each other.

In this artwork, there is many different emotions going on which explain the Adam and Eve story well. Eve is taking the apple from the tree because the serpent/the Devil convinced her to. The serpent/Devil is in the tree smirking because he is happy that Eve is going to commit sin. Adam looks worried because he knows that Eve should not take the apple from the forbidden tree. I really like this artwork because of all the emotions shown in it, it really tells the story just by looking at. I also like how the serpent head is not a snake head, it is the Devil's upper body as the head indicating that the snake is the Devil.
