This is due to the fact that young people may ask older people who aren't close to them in buying the cig.'s for them. The policy must become more stricter than age.

Safwan Miah: Changing the legal age to buy tobacco won't do anything because most teens are obviously under the legal age and they still get cigs and vapes and other substances, this wont stop them in getting the cigarettes and vapes and other things in their hands. This could probably increase the chance of teens smoking because its the thrill of doing something bad.

A lot of kids are abusing the 🤬 and are following the risks their peers take and do the same thing which is very detrimental to health for everyone. The policy must change in terms of having stricter laws about smoking and drinking to prevent these terrible conflicts.

Due to this ease of access, the age requirement does not matter at all. There should be more regulation over the sale of cigarettes rather than just the age.

Mohammad Eshan: Age requirement can be easily bypassed; as we've seen already. Teens are very "slick" nowadays. They'd do anything to be able to have access to 21+ things: drinks, cigarettes, and other things that are off limits. They could get people over 21 to purchase whatever they need, and give them a "tip" on top, again they can also use Fake IDs to get around this, because store-owners don't have a way of verifying anything. Ultimately, I don't believe changing the age will change anything. Teens will always be rebellious.

Ram Bagga
I believe that changing the legal age for use will not affect the amount of young people smoking because usually, people smoke because of peer pressure or as a form of coping with their feelings. Young people will still try to purchase cigarettes or obtain them illegally. Even when the legal age is 18, there is still illegal purchases, so raising the legal age would have no different effect.

I feel 50/50 about this policy change because yes, it plans to stop high school and middle school students from buying and using vape products but I don't believe it'll be effective. I think the plan the mayor and governor wants to prevent is pretty evident in this law. When you take away something that someone craves they'll only want it more. I feel this might limit the number of vape products that are in the hands of teens but it won't stop them from vaping and getting a way to do it, whether if it's sharing or having an adult buy it for them.
