Impulse buying is when you act on your emotion and you buy things that you don't need. You can prevent this by making a list of items you need, take time to decide if you need the item, or compare prices of that item on different stores or websites. Doing these things will help you to not impulsively buy items that you don't need.

Prioritize Your Wants

Another part of being a good consumer is to prioritize your wants. For example, things like food, clothes, and a shelter are all important wants. If you need any of these things then you should buy them instead of buying other things. Some things you want are not as important compared to food and having a place to live. That is why it is good to prioritize your wants and not spend money on items that aren't essential.
