How well do you know each other?

We have been working together as a group since we were in our first semester of taking the TESL course so it is safe to say we have similar work ethics and values on how work should be done and divided to ensure that everyone contributes. We work together in harmony too and our communication is good so everything can be done accordingly.

2. How well can you work in a team to ensure honesty, responsibility, trustworthiness, discipline and good teamwork among group members are upheld?

We are well aware of each other's strengths and weaknesses hence we always try to give and divide work based on that. Since we always strive to give the best in everything that we do, we are not a fan of procrastination and we'll get to work as soon as we get the materials or instructions needed for an assignment. I believe that our motto is "The sooner we start the faster we finish and the more we can rest".

We also prioritize our academics more than anything else. However, when there are certain circumstances that we can't avoid, we always have each others' backs and support each other because that's what you do when you're working in a group.

PART B
1. Why do you choose this topic?
(group's interest; current issue/problem; critical issue; significant to your group or a group of people etc.)

The reason why we chose this topic is that we are well aware that English is needed to widen one's horizon regardless of whatever field they're in. But specifically for this one, we thought that English skills for art students are important because the language itself is also art. And art provides opportunities for students to develop critical thinking skills. Other than that, we also want to study the purpose of English used in Art related terms to help Art students in academic. Often time we heard stories about how an artist is unable to promote their work to the world since they lack the ability to communicate with bigger audience in English, hence we want to study the topic to see the importance of the language itself if it's applied in the field of art.

PART C - ORAL PRESENTATION LINK

Oral Presentation Link (to be inserted in Week 14 - 15)

Don't forget to include a beautiful picture or Wefie/Selfie of yourself and your group members.

Have Fun!

How well do you know each other?

A friendship is so mysterious you never knew that you have met the right friends. Guess that is the main thing that I can say about all of us. We have been sticking with each other and meddling with each other since we are in our first year. To be honest, we were not intended to set as a team back then. We agreed to be in the same group as we seat together. That is when things started, we started to hang out more often. We always make time for each other even though it is not for the sake of the assignment. As the moment |I am writing this, a thought pass through my mind about we should celebrate our friendships. That basically sums up everything about how well do we know each other.

2. How well can you work in a team to ensure honesty, responsibility, trustworthiness, discipline and good teamwork among group members are uphold?

As this is not our first time doing assignments together, we believe in each other especially when it comes to responsibilities. Each member of our group is so trustworthy until you can tell them about the crime that you committed and they will never ever tell a single soul about it. We are quite a good discipline bunch of students as we thought we are as we never misconducted and violated any rules until now. To be honest, we are always dividing the work, fair and square before we started. This will help us make sure that every one of us will never become a free rider. Other than that, we will normally choose the leader of the group that holds up the responsibility to make sure everyone will play their roles. That is how we make sure each member of the group is committed to this assignment.

PART B
1. Why do you choose this topic?
(group's interest; current issue/problem; critical issue; significant to your group or a group of people etc.)

We chose barista as our sample because we believe that in the surrounding, English is essential. As a barista, you have to communicate with your clients, more preferably in English and also you need to write a report to HR Management in English as well. If we look at baristas in Starbuck per se, they often ask for customers' order in English and even the menu displayed are in that particular language. If some of the workers have trouble speaking in English, they might have a problem having two-way communication with the customers because we believe not all orders are generic. You might be able to memorize the right word but when it comes to custom orders, the barista might stumble upon a problem in that area.

We also believe by giving them a proper course, the customer service provided by baristas, nay, all the customer services in cafes will be improved to a tremendous result.

PART C - ORAL PRESENTATION LINK

Oral Presentation Link (to be inserted in Week 14 - 15)

Don't forget to include a beautiful picture or Wefie/Selfie of yourself and your group members.

Have Fun!

Valerie Michelle Anak Kimsing (A18PP0207)

PART A

1. How well do you know each other?

We have known each other since the beginning of our first year and have shared most classes together. Thus knowing each other quite well.

2. How well can you work in a team to ensure honesty, responsibility, trustworthiness, discipline and good teamwork among group members are uphold?

We are able to work well as a team because we are able to communicate all our issues and find a solution as a group together. Since we have been friends since 1st year, we are able to understand each other and provide good teamwork overall. With that we all understand each other’s strengths and we use it to our advantage when working as a team. As a team we firmly believe that by good communication and helping one another throughout the learning process, we are able to excel overall in our projects.

PART B
1. Why do you choose this topic?

Polytechnic is one of the most notable selections that students post-SPM –also known as Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, a national examination to be seated by all fifth-form secondary school students for them to be granted one of the Certificates of Education, which is considered essential in job hunting and/ or for higher education persuasion- opt for admission into tertiary education to further their studies in certification level, diploma and advanced diploma level in the country.

The general entry requirement for full-time Diploma courses is 3 to 5 SPM credits in relevant subjects depending on the subjects taken. Courses offered are mostly engineering, with a number of other non-science courses available (accounting, tourism, finance and banking etc..). And due to this, a good grasp of the English language is detrimental to start with, as there are particular subjects conducted in English, and hence specific terminology used exclusively in the said language, which if not translated properly to its Malay counterpart would yield a different meaning or worse, changed entirely.

There have been quite a few scholars studying the challenges and other related issues regarding the Teaching and Learning English in Polytechnic. Therefore, corresponding with these past studies done, we think that it is relevant to choose First-Year Polytechnic students because being in the freshman year, students are usually encouraged to participate in more educationally enriching activities. So, we are hopeful that, by selecting this target audience, it would elevate their familiarity in English.

PART C - ORAL PRESENTATION LINK

Oral Presentation Link (to be inserted in Week 14 - 15)

How well can you work in a team to ensure honesty, responsibility, trustworthiness, discipline and good teamwork among group members are uphold?
We believe that it all starts from a good and fair segregation of workload among us. We were just acquaintance until everyone else started to form their own group and stick with it for each semester. Frankly, that was how we ended up together. It was a constant ups and downs when it comes to assignments, fortunately we always pulled it of.

2. That is, we can work better in a collaborative environment rather than in an authoritative one. With less intense environment, we were less hesitant and threaten to come forward with opinion and suggestion. Using this as strength, we can say that we were safe to rely on each other and share workloads during rough times.

PART B:
1. Trying out something new for the sake of broadening our view of different English needs is very intriguing.

We would like to discover what kind of difficulties they are facing in workplace despite their familiarity completing work using English language.
