The movie is about Jay Gatsby, a rich and mysterious veteran from the first world war who somehow found a way to the become one of the elite of New York. The story is being told by Nick Carraway, who moved to West Egg in New York and became the neighbour of Gatsby. Carraway is the cousin of Daisay, who was the girlfriend of Gatsby during the first world war. but when Gatsby was deported to fight in Europe Daisy got married to Tom Buchanan, a member of the wealthiest family of New York.

 

When Gatsby returned back from the war he was determined to become wealthy and get Daisy back. He bought a mansion in West Egg which was exactly across the lake where Daisy and her husband lived. Gatsby threw every weekend the most lavish parties in his mansion where people from all over the city came without any invitation. Gatsby did this in the hope that Daisy would wonder in one day.

 

One day Carraway received an invitation to one of Gatsby’s parties. He attended and eventually met Gatsby. After getting acquainted with each other Gatsby asked Carraway if he could invite Daisy to his house for some tea. The day when Daisy went to Carraway’s house for some tea, Gatsby planned to go to Carraway’s house ‘’by accident’’ and meet Daisy. 

 

Gatsby eventually wins Daisy back but one day he and Daisy got into an accident causing a woman to die, and it happened to be the mistress of Daisy’s husband. Tom convinced the husband of his mistress that the accident was the fault of Gatsby. And one day that man drank too much and went to kill Gatsby.

 

In the end nobody cared about Gatsby and of all those hundreds of people that attended his parties nobody showed up at his funeral, only Nick Carraway.

Muhammed Ali, my favourite American athlete. He was not the heavy weight champion off the world, who often is considered being the greatest of all time, but he was also a wonderful person who inspired the world.

 

Muhammed Ali was born as Cassius Clay in Louisville on the 17th of January 1942. Ali became three times world champion heavyweight and won a golden medal in the Olympic games during his career as a boxer. Ali has won 56 of the total 61 fights he fought. He had an unorthodox way of fighting for a heavyweight. Instead of using his hands to cover his face, Ali relied on his ability to dodge punches. 

 

Besides the legendary fights Ali fought and his accomplishments in boxing he was also famous for the person he was. Ali became during his career a member of the Nation of Islam. This made him close friends with Malcom X who named Ali Cassius X. later he became known as Muhammed Ali. 

 

Ali was also known for his controversial speeches during interviews and tv-shows. He addressed his views on politics, religion and various other aspects of life. This made Ali known as a humanitarian and a goodwill ambassador. 

 

Jackson performed his songs in music videos adding a visual story which was enhanced by dancing geography. The music video of Thriller has a length of 14 minutes, in which Jackson performs dance moves that became known over the whole world. Another music video of the song ‘Scream’, a duet with his sister Janet Jackson, became and is still the most expensive music video of all time, which costs 7 million dollars. 

 

Jackson was also known for his personal life. Because Jackson was shy he never liked to attend interviews. This made the rumours about his personal life even more. Jackson bought a huge farm which he turned in a theme park with attractions and animals and named it Neverland Ranch. The rumours about Jackson were often about his appearance. Over the years his dark skin turned to become white. In the American black community there went rumours around saying that Jackson changed his skin-color to hide his ethnic background. But Jackson claimed that he was suffering from a skin condition called Vitiligo, which causes the pigment of the skin to disappear. 

 

Jackson died at the age of 50 in 2009 in a house in Los Angeles, where he was preparing for his last concert in London. Even though the many scandals that went around about Jackson he will be reminded about his music and his positive influence on the world.

 

Coca-Cola was invented by a pharmacist named John Pemberton. Before he made the Coca-Cola we know today he made an alcoholic Vin Mariani which he named Pemberton’s French wine cola. But when there became a prohibition on alcohol in 1886 in Atlanta where Pemberton lived. He decided then to replace the wine with sugar syrup and named the drink Coca-Cola.  

 

Coca-Cola can be found in every country in the world except in North-Korea. The Coca-Cola company makes use of different marketing strategies which made the Coca-Cola the symbol of America and a part of the American Dream. 

 

The iconic Coca-Cola bottle was designed with the purpose that it still would be recognized in the dark. This was done so that American soldiers easily could find the Coca-Cola bottle. 

 

The secret ingredient in Coca-Cola is a combination of different natural flavours which are mentioned 7 times together. The secret formula of Coca-Cola is being kept in a vault in Atlanta in the state Georgia. There are just a handful of people who know the formula and even the managing board of Coca-Cola doesn’t know it.
