¨A teacher writes about his ¨burgeoning sense of kindness and generosity¨ and concludes,¨I wonder at the gifts he will undoubtedly bring to the world.¨ Showin Nic in his purest form. Its tragic too see how of a charasmatic person can fall into the addiction. It bugs me if someone said he was a bad person because he purely isnt. He´s made a bad, horrible choice. However he is kind however is influenced heavily. Maybe due to the divorce he´s a bit more influenced than others. What I notice is he loves music. Its like he uses it as a way to say the things he cant without anyone being able to question him, he uses it as an outlet which the lyrics is quite sad.

The roller coaster of emotions through relapse and recovery leave both David (Nic's father) and the audience emotionally exhausted.

¨Its hard. I dont know. Everyone drinks. Everybody smokes. Im sick of not having the courage to be an absolute nobody.¨ Nic is having this issue of being heavily influenced by others. His conflict is himself. Hes struggling with this idea as if he is a nobody, and he doesnt want to be a nobody. He uses drugs to not have to deal with inner conflicts. Its a mask, and a temporary solution. When the ¨high,¨ wears off he does more drugs too feel it again. The conflict is Nic using drugs and his addiction. How he self sabotages his own idea of life and himself.
¨I retrieve a crumpled- up piece of paper under the desk. Nic wrote: Im so thin and frail. Don´t care, want another rail.¨ (A quote from the book that I think shows his carelessness towards himself.)

"His what?" "You mean you don't know?" Nic had never told us. Even after discovering the marijuana two years ago, I am stunned. "I'm sorry, but this must be some sort of mistake." It's no mistake."

This shows that the relationship between Nic and his father has changed since he had discovered Nic was doing drugs. The dad is trying to believe that Nic isn't how he was 2 years ago but it seems as though Nic didn't learn. I feel like the dad is putting too much to think his son is okay and a good person as he is still young. It seems that because Nic does things he likes doing in front of him, it makes the dad think Nic isn't a bad kid. Then when he finds out that Nic's been doing drugs, it surprises him and can't really believe it, like how his parents still don't believe he did drugs when he was younger.
