This shows that the relationship between Nic and his father has changed since he had discovered Nic was doing drugs. The dad is trying to believe that Nic isn't how he was 2 years ago but it seems as though Nic didn't learn. I feel like the dad is putting too much to think his son is okay and a good person as he is still young. It seems that because Nic does things he likes doing in front of him, it makes the dad think Nic isn't a bad kid.
