Public transportation is an asset in neighborhoods for several reasons, e.g., it provides a way for people who do not have vehicles to get around the city, leads to the University, and therefore eases parking financial burdens for students and teachers along with not having to pay parking fees in the city for residents, provides jobs, saves gas money, and importantly for Utah: reduces poor air quality and fights other negative aspects of climate change.

Rancho’s Market provides the community access to traditional Mexican ingredients. As so, it gives more options in terms of food that may not be present at other grocery stores. The market brings cultural diversity to the neighborhood. Therefore, the neighborhood is inclusive. Furthermore, it makes the neighborhood more unique since it has variety. At times, the prices are also lower, and items can be locally sourced, which helps the economy and gives community members fresher food. Lastly, it is familiar to the Hispanic community and allows them to eat traditional food.

Benches

There are several benches spread throughout the neighborhood. Benches allow people the ability to take a rest when walking. This is especially important for elders and people with disabilities, as it makes the area more comfortable in terms of meeting needs. The benches also make the neighborhood more appealing and pleasant. Lastly, benches are a useful tool in promoting social interaction. With these benches, people can sit across from each other and engage in conversation.

Furthermore, it will help people get jobs, as having tech skills is often important in various fields.

The neighborhood includes various churches, which hold meeting spaces for individuals of all different faiths. For example, there are Catholic churches, a Greek Orthodox church, LDS churches, a Church of Tonga, an Islamic center, Chua Tam Bào (Buddhist temple), etc. These churches make the neighborhood highly diverse and inclusive, which builds community and connects people to their spirituality. It also helps people from different backgrounds feel included and a sense of familiarity and belonging. Furthermore, some provide the space for community gatherings not necessarily tied to religion, i.e., events, food drives, cultural celebrations, etc.

Art Spaces

Art spaces and alliances are very convenient for artists such as myself. These spaces allow artists to network, which brings more opportunities, i.e., jobs, collaborations, exposure, resources, skill growth, and more. Being an artist, it is nice to have access to exhibition spaces so that we can showcase art and engage with other artists' work. It connects people to their passion for creation and leads to fulfillment. Furthermore, the spaces help artists feel like they have a place within the community and that their art is valued. It also provides community members opportunities to engage with the community and going to art galleries is something they may find enjoyable to do.

Boys and Girls Club

It also gives parents a break and potential peace, knowing that their children can further develop their skills. The club is also important for children as it helps them find what their hobbies and strong suits are. This helps build a sense of identity, purpose, and happiness.

Overall, I am impressed with the diversity and assets that Fairpark includes in the neighborhood. While the last project revealed deficits, this project allowed me to see that there are also positives in the area. I believe this is an important life lesson: while there may be improvements needed, there are still positives to be grateful for. This neighborhood is a good example of inclusive diversity, something that is important in the U.S. as there are people who have different interests and needs; many come from various backgrounds. Exploring the neighborhood reminded me of the various worldviews, experiences, and needs that are present around me. I believe that many other communities can learn how to enhance their spaces by coming to Fairpark and seeing the assets that provide inclusivity.
