Jane Eyre is a classic Bildungsroman, a coming of age story of a poor, plain orphan with artistic tendencies who learns to navigate her way in the world. Jane is mistreated by her extended family and encouraged to be obedient in the orphanage. Eventually she works as a governess in the mansion of Mr. Rochester, an older, brooding man with a past whose house is haunted by a ghost. Over time, Rochester confides in Jane and she learns the ghost is his wife Bertha, a Creole bride he married and brought to England from the West Indies. He claims she is insane, attributes this madness to her Creole origins, and tells Jane he has confined Bertha in his attic for decades. Bertha winds up setting fire to the mansion, but Rochester survives, though he loses his vision. Jane marries him and becomes his caretaker in what is presented as the typical happy ending for a woman in a Victorian novel: "Reader, I married him."

The ghost in this novel can be thought of as Jane's doppleganger, or shadow self. She is not fleshed out character in the novel, as we never get her perspective; she represents the rebellious side of Jane that had to be driven underground in order for her to become respectable in the eyes of others, to become Rochester's bride- a proper English lady despite her humble origins. In a much broader sense, the ghost can be seen as a representation of England's haunting colonial past in the Americas. A century after Bronte published Jane Eyre, Jean Rhys, a Dominican writer living in England, followed up with Wide Sargasso Sea, a novel that tells the story of Rochester and his wife from both perspectives and that is set mainly in Jamaica in the nineteenth century.

The Many Saints of Newark -Salvatore Neis

The Many Saints of Newark is a film directed by the creator of "The Sopranos" David Chase that goes over the lives of mobsters in the Newark area during the late 20th century. The film is a prequel to the "Sopranos" television series and is told from the perspective of a ghost. This ghost is Christopher Moltisanti a mobster from the show "Sopranos" who passed away in 2009. Christopher tells the story of his father Dickie Moltisanti and how it relates to that of his mentor Tony Soprano. It is revealed at the end that it is Tony Soprano who killed Christopher and the film portrays the true cruelty and dishonesty of the mafia. The film does this by portraying Christopher's father Dickie Moltisanti in a much different way than he is talked about on the Sopranos television show. Where he was once idolized in the show by Tony Soprano as a mentor of his own it is revealed that he was an evil individual whose crimes had caused him great distress. Dickie Moltisantis's story ends with him being murdered by another mobster in his family as a result of him joking around about him in front of other mobsters. The movie is set up to show the reality of the mafia and how its common portrayal in films as a fast-paced entertaining life where many die young is not particularly true. It reveals the crime organization as an institution that does not abide by its own principles and shows that those closest to you may be the cause of your death for little to no reason.

In this series of the show supernatural, there's two brothers who lost their mom because of a demon and their dad left them to look for the demon that killed their mom. They were alone at a young age making the older brother more of a father figure to the younger one which is why they always sticked together. As they got older they catch all kinds of supernatural things like ghosts and demons. The show revolves around them hunting and catching demons/ghosts. They usually help and save people from the supernatural things that are going after them and trying to kill them. Most people don't believe them and usually think they are crazy when they try to explain to them what they do or explain to them that they are trying to save them from being killed by a supernatural thing but eventually they listen once they see the supernatural thing in the act of destroying their life.

The ghosts/demons in this series of show represent the conflict/ problems of the two brothers. Without the demons/ ghosts, there wouldn't be a show or any interesting events happening in the show. Them fighting the demons together as siblings putting their life at risk show what kind of people they are and shows how they care for others and are passionate about what they do. They don't want what happened to them when they were little kids, happen to any other person cause they know how much they struggled and don't want anyone else to get hurt and have to go through whatever they been through at such a young age. The younger one with long hair is sam and the older one with short hair is dean.

A Christmas Carol analysis

A Christmas Carol is subjected around an old man, Ebenezer Scrooge who is never happy with his surroundings. His character is the epitome of unhappy, unfulfilled, and selfish old man. Despite being able to live a happy life for himself, he is unkind and rude to others. Consistently, he offers his rude remarks and offerings. In one instance, he refuses services to those working under him. Despite it being a cold Christmas eve, he doesn't go out of his way to warm up the work place so that his employee can work in the right condition. In another instance, he makes rude remarks to his nephew kind words. Due to such awful manners, when scrooge comes home, 3 spirits/ghost visit him to allow him to see life from a different perspective. Each ghost carries him to a different timeline in which he can observe the cruelty and awful conditions faced by others. In the end, the visitation of these ghosts warrants Scrooge to change his ways and act with a better spirit and be more giving after seeing his own grave.
The 3 ghosts of this novel represent the past, present and future. They merely serve to be a vision and serve to show the unseen perspective of Scrooge. Although each ghost can be represented as individual traits, they serve to be a second pair of eyes. Without the presence of such ghosts, Scrooge would've lived an unfulfilled life with strangers and those around him feeling happy for his passing. The initial presence of the ghost of past serves as a reminder for Scrooges past which leads to Scrooges miserable attitude. In a way, it shows the reason and way which he projects his mean childhood onto others.
-akib

In the movie Sinister, True-crime writer Ellison Oswald is in a slump; he hasn't had a best seller in more than 10 years and is becoming desperate for a hit. Going through boxes, he discovers the death of a family, he vows to solve the mystery. When old film footage and other clues hint at the presence of a supernatural force, Ellison attempts to save his family before it's too late.
The ghost in Sinister has many names. Bagul, also known as Buhguul or Mr. Boogie, is the main antagonist. The origin is an ancient Babylonian pagan deity who consumes the souls of human children. He possesses a realm of his own and can travel into the mortal world. Once there, he is a tall, nightmarish, humanoid in the form of a man with pale skin and very long hair. He has dark eyes and a mouth that seems to be sown. Each family that was murdered had previously lived in the former family's house. The Bagul would manipulate their children into killing them. Each film was taken by their children and given a title.

-Brandon Sze

In the series Harry Potter, ghosts were a common sight in the School of Magic, Hogwarts. Each of the four houses had a ghost that represented them, Slytherin with the Bloody Baron. Gryffindor with Headless Nick, Hufflepuff with Frair, and Ravenclaw with The Grey Lady. J.K. Rowling explains that these Ghosts were soul imprints of dead witches or wizards who had passed away, with a still strong attachment to the living.
One Ghost in the series that was somewhat of a character was the Moaning Myrtle. Myrtle was a student at Hogwarts who suffered from intense bullying. She then suffers an even more unfortunate fate when she was killed by the Serpent of Slytherin while she was crying due to the bullying.
Myrtle's character was used to give readers or viewers a glimpse into the backstory of the supervillain Voldemort. It was explained that her death was simply an unfortunate collateral of Tom Riddle's (Voldemort) plan to become a powerful wizard.

In the movie Coco, there is a boy named Miguel who has a love for music and playing the guitar but it is banned in his family and he does not know why. He believes he is related to Ernesto de la Cruz who is a very famous and loved musician even after his death. Miguel went to his grave to borrow his guitar so he could be able to join a music competition. When Miguel touched Ernestos guitar he got cursed and transported to the land of the dead for stealing from the dead. He finds his deceased family members and needs their blessing to return to life. While giving Miguel her blessing his great grandma makes him promise to never play music again. Miguel refuses her blessing and runs away. He runs into Hector and asks him if he knows Ernesto and Hector says he will take Miguel to Ernesto only if he places his picture on the ofrenda once he returns home. Miguel needs a family members blessing from the land of the dead in order to return home and he needs it fast because he is turning into a ghost like everyone else. The ghosts in the land of the dead have important significance to Coco because it shows you another perspective to the day of the dead that we do not see. It will make you think of your family members who have passed. -Marilyn Buestan

It haunts her everywhere she goes, especially when she indulges in things to escape the trauma, such as the fight arena she joins. This ghost serves to remind Korra if the Avatar is even needed anymore in the world, and of the horrifying pain of her being poisoned, not being in control of all that power and going on a rampage. Zaheer, the main antagonist of the previous season had poisoned her with mercury to force her into the avatar state, then kill her in attempt to end the avatar reincarnation cycle for good. Now Korra's ghost makes her question if Zaheer was right after all, and so she disappears from the rest of the world believing the Avatar is not needed. This entire episode shows Korra at her lowest point, and it is an uphill battle both physically and mentally even after this episode. Eventually Korra meets Toph, the Earthbending master from the show's predecessor "Avatar: The last Airbender". Since some of the poison is still in her, even after years. She asks Toph to metalbend the poison out. Toph fails to do it because its causing Korra pain. Turns out the only solution is for Korra to metalbend the mercury out herself, which serves as an analogy to fighting depression, where even though it is needed to get help from others, you yourself have to be willing to also do the work. Even after that, Korra is still haunted by her ghost, even though all of the mercury is removed from her body. The ghost gradually stops appearing. but it is a realistic way of showing how people can't change in an instant, because Korra still has to believe that she is needed.
