Bilal ibn Rabah was a former slave in Mecca who embraced Islam in its early days. His owner tortured him to force him to abandon his belief in Allah. Under the scorching sun, heavy stones were placed on his chest. But Bilal only repeated one word:

“Ahad, Ahad” (One, One – referring to Allah’s Oneness).

His faith never broke. Eventually, he was freed by Abu Bakr (RA) and became the first Mu’adhin (caller to prayer) in Islam, personally appointed by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
