Park gets her theme ideas from were her culture comes from. Parks culture is Korean. She uses stories, legends, and more to put into her books. This can be found in the book "A Single Shard" the book was placed in a small village on the West Coast of Korea mid to late 12th century. Three techniques she uses are description, tone, and the reader knows more than the character. These can be found on page 95 were Min says '" You are not my son"'. That is mostly tone and description. On page 114 It says "It was a fox" in our minds you can see a red/ orange and white fox. In the book we knew that "'Stop your struggle worthless one'" I believe that I knew that there was a robber and the character knew nothing.

Common Trends:The Kite Fighters

A common trends of The Kite Fighters between the other books are, the charter names are abstract and special and mean something. For example, Kee-sup is the key for Young-sup to get what he wants from his father. The quote to support this "'Always the eldest son represents'"...'Always you.'...Because you asked him to.' There was no answer. 'I'm right aren't I?" This proves that his brother was the key to him getting the real/7th kite.

Common Trends: SeeSaw Girl

Some common themes in Seesaw Girl is that Linda Sue Park uses symbolism to have a entertaining story. A symbol in Seesaw Girl is the mountains. The mountains represent freedom.
Park also has the chapter titles of the chapters foreshadow of what is about to happen. The chapter titles also have some of Korea culture hidden into it. In the book it says "A Goose For The Wedding". This is resembling that in Korea culture, the groom brings a goose and puts it on the table. All of that is hidden just inside that title. Also the chapter title is foreshadowing that there is a goose at the wedding that will be important.

Techniques Linda Sue Park uses

Three techniques she uses are description, tone, and the reader knows more than the character. In a "A Single Shard" these can be found on page 95 were Min says '" You are not my son"'. That is mostly tone and description. On page 114 It says "It was a fox" in our minds you can see a red/ orange and white fox. In the book we knew that "'Stop your struggle worthless one'" I believe that I knew that there was a robber and the character knew nothing. In "The Kite Fighters" the tone can be seen in this example: "Young-sup smiled, sure now of the light that was his own" one for desc. In "When My Name Was Keoko" these techniques are shown on page 75 it says "Mother puts the pin in her underwear" this gives description because the pin that she put into her pants was a dragon holding a pearl in it's mouth,we thought that represented Keoko and how she can be mean and gentil at the same time. The tone she uses in "When My Name Was Keoko",on page 163 "Nothing makes time go slower than waiting" this shows that Keoko was sad that her brother had to leave. An example for the reader knowing more than the is " Americans had dropped two bombs on Japan" this shows that the reader knew that the Americans would win the war because the americans were already winning.Seesaw Girl also uses description, tone, and the reader knows more than the character. In the book it mentions " she saw a crowd of people, most of them poorly dressed ... ". Park describes and uses tone to paint an image in the readers mind to get a better understanding of the book. I knew more than Jade when I knew the people were poor and homeless and later on, Jade found out.
