The story Front Desk has a very interesting setting. Its setting takes place in a motel 🏨, The Calvista. Mostly, the main character manages the front desk so that is the main setting. It also takes place at the main character’s school 🏫. And also for a short chapter, at a department store 🏬.

Mia Tang is the main character in Front Desk. Three character qualities I would give her are: Kind, because Mia always thinks of others like when she makes a book of American 🇺🇸 slang for a Chinese immigrant who does not know slang and takes everything literally. Then, I would say she is persistent because she never gave up on her family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 or motel 🏨 or her friends. Last, I would say she is very proud of her family and motel. Those are Mia Tang’s character traits!

And I’d make the book a little longer so that at the end you can see that Melody hangs out with her friends 👯‍♀️outside of camp. Maybe she could have a sleepover with Joeclyn or Karyn. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

She cleans and cooks for them all day, just like in the fairy tale Cinderella (That is the princess she is based off of in the story) She also sticks up for her friends and is smart. I know that because she figures out who the murderer is in the story.

I say that Mrs. V is very kind, hardworking , and outspoken. I say this because:
1. Kind
Mrs. V is very kind because she took care of Melody when other people were scared of her. She watched Melody and taught her to crawl when she was a baby. I know this because it says “ Turn over Melody’ she said real nice and soft” (Draper 42) this is a quote from when she was trying to teach Melody to crawl.
2. Hardworking
She is hardworking because she never gave up on Melody, even when Melody gave up on herself. She quizzed Melody on all kinds of facts for the WhizKids competition and didn’t stop. “I correctly answered that Tokyo was the capital of Japan, Ottawa the capital of Canada, Addis Abada the capital of Ethiopia, and Bogata the capital of Columbia. Mrs V quizzed me until dad came to pick me up” (Draper 162) This shows that Mrs. V is hardworking.
3. Outspoken
I say Mrs. V is outspoken because she doesn’t care what other people think of her. She wears wild clothes and is very tall and loud “Mrs. V wears huge, flowing dresses-must be miles of material in those things-all in crazy color combinations. Bubble gum pink and fire engine red, with peachy sherbet and bright cinnamon” (Draper 40)

I think the theme for Out of My Mind is acceptance. I know this because no one accepts Melody. Also, no one knows that she is super smart so they leave her behind for the competition. Of course, they realize that they made a mistake because they lost the game without her. I know the theme is acceptance because they have to learn to be kind to Melody even though she is different. “I could imagine than standing there, with the trophy and without… me” (Draper 291)

I think the theme of Everything Everything is you only live once. I think this because the entire story is basically about a girl who has a disease where she is allergic to everything, but she meets a boy who is not allowed to see or get near him. So she has to be confined in her house instead of living life. But, in the end, she decides she can’t take life for granted. This is why I think the theme is you only live once.

I highly recommend this book. It is a very good book for people who like realistic fiction and romcom. It is a very good story and easy to follow. There are only 4 main characters, but it doesn’t switch POV. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars!

Everything Everything mostly takes place in Madeline’s house. Towards the end of the book, Madeline and Olly move to Hawaii, so some of the story happens in Honolulu also. The setting fits the story, and the author is very good at describing the scenery. That was the setting of Everything Everything.
