When Willy says this, I notice a mindset that wouldn't set someone up for a happy life. Rather than finding something to appreciate about his current circumstances or taking action to change them, Willy instead imagines the past and how many things were 'better' then compared to the present. As the video "The Tail End" said, our lives are progressing along further and further every day; we only have a limited time to make life into what we want it. I’ve noticed that Linda ends up just taking what Willy says to her and does not stand up for herself or really get the chance to explain her thoughts. She tends to just give him what he wants to hear even if it digs her in a deeper hole. Willy focusing so much on the negatives in his own life, even though there’s a huge achievement to be seen. He’s unable to find the good in any and in clearly good scenarios. He can’t embrace the wonderful things he’s done or owns and brings himself and the people around him into a hole.

During Biffs and Happys conversation there’s a lot of talk about dreams or longing for or a set expectation to be somewhere else in life but no real action. I think especially for Biff there’s a lack of fulfillment that he feels in his life and wants to be further on but can’t escape the life that he’s living in right now. This type of thinking is setting him up for failure as the expectations that he has to live up to are not in line with him at the moment. It’s a little like wishing to be a famous actor or at a high position in life when you haven’t started acting classes left or even applied to the job yet. Willy and charley have a conversation where they banter with each other. Charley wants to be as helpful and supportive of Willy by offering him a job and have conversation and games to bring him happiness but he is met with rudeness from Willy. I think Charley is able to see past Willy’s rudeness because he knows that it’s not who he truly his but he still is sacrificing his own happiness and energy to try to lift up Willy and unfortunately it’s just a waste of time. Willy won’t take another from either him or Linda. This quote also connects to the Atlantic post and the points about relationships. Biff has accepted the fact that he wants to make something out of his life, there’s many points where he admits that he’s not worth much, a dollar a day he says, and he’s lied and stolen and been in jail and has spent his life trying to please Willy with bringing home ‘gifts’ but he is re-writing his story now, and wants to make changes in his life. He also makes it clear that he is the only one that’s really doing that especially when he says that Willy isn’t going to stop waiting for him. Happy engages in a very harmful mindset that will most likely cause him to end up the way that Willy did. Sadly, Happy still feels the need to follow the 'dream' that Willy had for himself and tells himself that Willy did not die in vain when he did. He avoids the truth of the situation and creates a story for himself that will make him end up on top even though that clearly does not make someone any more happier than they were before, in fact it makes someone (willy) feel even more despair and disappointment. Willy believes that being well-liked and or wealthy will get him far in life, when in reality he is focusing on the wrong things, this in turn causes him to become unhappy and unwell. One should avoid fixating their happiness on materialistic things or ideas in order to find true happiness within oneself. Willy should instead not focus on '[being] remembered and loved by so many different people' but instead focus on the relationships with people closer to him like Linda and his sons.
