By the third generation electronic computers have gone a long evolutionary way. This mind map shows the evolution os computer programming languages.

The first-generation computer used machine language as a programming language. Machine language is a programming language whose content and rules are implemented by computer hardware. A machine language consists of a system of computer commands and a method of encoding information (source data, calculation results) adopted in the computer. Machine language symbols are binary digits, as a rule, symbols are grouped into constructs (morphemes) - addresses in commands, operation codes, and command attributes, programs that implement task algorithms are made up of commands

The program is translated into executable machine code by an assembler-translator program

High-level languages (ADA, Fortran, PL-1, Basic, Pascal) were used as a programming language in third-generation computers. A high-level language is a "human-oriented" programming language that mimics natural language. The higher the language level, the closer the data structures and constructs used in the program are to the concepts of the original problem. It is much easier to develop programs in high-level languages using clear and powerful commands than in machine language or Assembly language.
