         <description><![CDATA[<div>Good day Life Science students I trust that you are well under the circumstances. <br> With the continued spread of the coronavirus, technology and online learning platforms have become increasingly essential. Today we meet on this platform just to share some ideas on the Skeletal Sytem.<br> <br> The skeletal system in an adult body is made up of 206 individual bones. These bones are arranged into two major divisions: the axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton. The axial skeleton runs along the body’s midline axis and is made up of 80 bones in the following regions:<br> <br> Skull<br> <br> Hyoid<br> <br> Auditory ossicles<br> <br> Ribs<br> <br> Sternum<br> <br> Vertebral column<br> <br> The appendicular skeleton is made up of 126 bones in the folowing regions:<br> <br> Upper limbs<br> <br> Lower limbs<br> <br> Pelvic girdle<br> <br> Pectoral (shoulder) girdle<br> <br> <br> Bones are amazing. People are often surprised to learn that bone is a living tissue. It is widely understood that our bones have the ability to repair themselves after breaks and fractures.          <title>Why babies are born with more bones than  adults?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Human babies are born with some unfused leg and arm bones. They are born unfused to allow for continued growth, and they also serve to reduce injury when a baby falls down. <br><br>For example, babies are born with kneecaps that are mostly just cartilage pieces and do not become one fully formed bone until the age of three.<br><br>By late adolescence, all the bones in the body are fully formed and some have become fused together.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Good day Ms Benn, thank you for introducing this new platform to us. So to answer your questions...<br><br>1. I think that adults have less bones because babies have more cartilage and later some bones fuse together to make one big bone instead of two smaller ones.<br><br>2. I read somewhere that we get shorter as we enter old age because the cartilage between our joints get worn out and some diseases makes our spinal cord become shorter. ( I don't know if I am right)<br><br>3. There are many wives tales about this Mam, but the main ones that have been proven to work is: You need to get in enough vitamin D and eat a well balanced diet, get regular exercise, and it's also known that smokers and drinkers get osteoporosis more, so reduce or remove completely smoking and drinking.<br><br>Thank you Ms Benn, will you be sending more work on this platform?<br><br>Raylene Sonnenberg<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>The difference in the skeletal systems of babies and elderly people.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. An adult has 206 bones, but a new-born baby has nearly 300 bones in his/her body. This is because babies have more flexible cartilage in the body. As the child grows, some of the cartilage hardens and turns to bone, and some bones fuse together.<br><br>2. People can shrink as they age because the cartilage between their joints gets worn out and osteoporosis causes the spinal column to become shorter.<br><br>3. The following are ways to reduce the risks of getting osteoporosis:<br>- Know your risks: Knowing your risks is the first step to prevention.<br>- Exercise: Exercise, particularly weight-bearing exercises like walking, is important for good bone health. <br>- Look at your calcium and vitamin D intake. <br>- Stop smoking. <br>- Limit alcohol consumption. <br>- Treat the underlying cause of a fracture.<br><br>- Denielle Hailey Booysen<br> 217042201<br> </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Why do babies have more bones than adults?<br><br>The skeleton of a newborn baby is made up of more than 300 parts, most of which are made of cartilage. Over time, most of this cartilage turns into bone, in a process called ossification. As the baby grows, some of its bones fuse together to form bigger bones. By adulthood, your skeleton contains just 206 bones.<br><br>The reason why people shrink as they age:<br><br>People lose height because the discs between the vertebrae in the spine dehydrate and compress. The aging spine can also become more curved, and vertebrae can collapse (compression fracture) due to loss of bone density (osteoporosis). Loss of muscle in the torso can also contribute to stooped posture. Even the gradual flattening of the arches of the feet can make you slightly shorter.<br><br>How to reduce the risk of osteoporosis:<br><br>-Get enough calcium and vitamin D and eat a well balanced diet.<br>-Engage in regular exercise.<br>-Eat foods that are good for bone health, such as fruits and vegetables.<br><br>Adam-Lee Arendse <br>218292317 </div>]]></description>
