Shaista Rahman

This week I learned about many different theories regarding the way people learn such as Behaviorism, Cognitivism and Constructivism , Connectivism and Adult learning theory(Andragogy). Concept of Behaviorism, Cognitivism and Constructivism has been refreshed through well explained videos.Concept of Connectivism is very important in today's scenario. The idea is that knowledge exist everywhwhere and is accesed and organised by the learner. It is a learning theory for the digital age. Andragogy (adult learning theory) was new term I learnt this week. I came to know about the principles of andragogy,Integration of ADDIE model in adult learning to create a new design model for adults. By studying and knowing the different learning theories,we can better understand how learning occurs. The principles of the theories can be used as guidelines to help select instructional tools, techniques and strategies that promote learning.

I have learned concept and 6 principles of Adult learning, ADDIE Model, Constructivism learning theories such as Piaget’s cognitive leaning theory and Lev Vygotsky’s Social learning theory, Connectivist learning theory and community of inquiry theory. All these theories contributed new perspectives of teaching learning process. They emphasizes more on contributions and collaborations of new knowledge, sharing information, social interactions, actively build own knowledge and understanding of the world, growth of cognitive development. All the videos were self-explanatory. As a teacher educator, I strongly believed that implementations of all these learning theories enhance cognitive development of the learners.
--- Dr. Sandhya Sarwade
