Growing up I loved learning about my culture, spending time with my grandparents, and listening to all of their stories. Both my grandma and grandpa could speak fluent Navajo and English. The food is so good, especially the fry bread and Navajo tacos of course. I have learned many valuable life lessons from my Diné culture with my favorite being—how to find beauty in every aspect of life. Taking pictures helps me to express my creativity and capture moments in time. I love to find new perspectives and think of cool concepts to take pictures of. I am constantly looking around everywhere I go for new inspiration. Earlier this year, two of my pictures even got into the Springville Museum of Art! Recently, my grandpa gave me three of his film cameras to encourage me to keep taking pictures. I hardly listened to any other music than what my mom listened to or what was on the radio. My older brothers listened to a lot of Frank Ocean and introduced me to his music when I was about 13. Eventually, I listened to his whole discography and adored his music. Frank Ocean has helped me fall in love with music and inspired me to have a more open mind. Whether it was my own games/practices, or my brothers' games, I was always on a soccer field. This sport has taught me so much about hard work, confidence, teamwork, effort, and communication. I enjoy watching soccer and observing how teams work together. It is definitely a fun outlet for competition and also a good way to focus. When I was a little girl, I begged my parents to put me in piano lessons and eventually they did. My grandpa loved classical music and offered to pay for my lessons. I took lessons for about 5 years until my life got too busy to fit it into my schedule. I continue to play in my free time and enjoy learning new songs. Piano has taught me how to be patient and work towards an end result.
