Our topic this term is: Happy to be me

Our story is ‘Happy to be me’, where we are looking at how amazing our bodies are and celebrating the different senses that help us to explore the world.

The children have been sitting beautifully at group time, and participating in turn taking games with their friends.

In art, we have been mixing colours and exploring painting with toy animals.

In our mark making sessions, the children used play dough to trace letters. They also drew patterns in shaving foam, and used scissors to practice their fine motor skills.

We spent time in soft play, going on a number hunt and we also spent time on sensory playground where we explored the apparatus, and took part in another number hunt.

The children have had an amazing first week back and we are so proud of them for all their hard work, and for settling in so well!

In Geography, the children have been learning all about maps and where we live. Outdoors, the children worked together to build houses from sticks on the grass.

In phonics, we have been practising hard- sitting beautifully for group time while listening to and sounding out letters.

In maths, we explored colour patterns, practised counting and worked on recognising shapes.

During PE, the children practiced their balancing skills on the climbing frames and swinging ropes.

In art, everyone painted wonderful self- portraits, taking time to look at our beautiful features on our faces.

In science we have been looking at animals and humans. We made lions out of paper plates and different textures. We also made a skeleton out of toilet rolls.

We continued our story ‘Mixed’. In our activity, we looked at colours and the beautiful colours they make when they mix together. We used pipettes filled with paint to squeeze out the paint and watch the colours blend.

We went on a colour hunt in soft play and finished the session with the parachute as a calming session.

We ended the week with Forest school on Friday where we explored the different parts of forest school, playing on the hammock, mud kitchen, and our new greenhouse. The children really enjoyed this.

In our messy play, the children explored numbers and phonics in colourful gloop, practising counting and matching numbers, while watching the colours mix. We also found shapes in jelly, matching them and noticing their colours.

In the wild classroom outdoors, the children used paper plates, paints, and coloured tissue to make their own Earth. This is in line with our geography topic, where we are learning all about the world, maps, and our local environments. In class, we used natural resources such as sticks and conkers to build houses!

Some of the children went to Aldi to get the shopping we needed for our sensory baking session, where we baked chocolate Rice Krispie cakes.

We ended the week with a relaxing foot spa and some well-deserved choose time after all our hard work this week!

In PE, the children did lots of climbing, exploring the apparatus and using the swinging ropes.

We had messy play in phonics and literacy, finding letters in gloop and sand.

We ended the week in forest school, learning about the different coloured autumn leaves falling down. We also made crowns using leaves.

In science, we explored human emotions, using colours to differentiate them.

In our bucket session, we stamped shapes with paints.

In music, we explored different instruments, playing them fast and slow, then finished off our session with moving our ribbons to the slow music.

On sensory playground, we enjoyed the apparatus and we found letters on the floor.

We ended the week with an assembly for star of the week, followed by choose time and a foot spa!

In maths, we are learning about shapes and we went on a shape hunt around the school, while exploring shapes in messy play in class. We created a colour monster using shapes, by cutting out the shapes and glueing them together.

For geography, we are looking at maps and local environments. In the wild classroom outside, we went on a hunt to find different types of houses and we also created our own houses using junk modelling in class!

On Friday, we had forest school where we created hedgehogs using clay and sticks.

We had a story for Diwali, looking at the colourful bangles, and had activities outside celebrating Diwali. We made fireworks with paint, patterns in the sand and lots of dancing!

This week we went to the pumpkin patch where we picked pumpkins and danced to the music. The children really enjoyed this. We have had lots of Halloween activities, including making ghosts in art and painting pumpkins.
