Due to trading regulations when we leave the EU trading prices will go up depending on the deal we get. This means that oral health will become more expensive for both the main and private sectors of oral health (private dentist care and oral health products).

E – The economy doesn’t really affect oral health since toothbrushes and toothpaste are not seen as a luxury now but more of a necessity. Once we leave the EU as most of oral health companies/manufacturers are US based businesses depending on the trade deal to set the price of oral health products. There is a potential rise or fall in costs. People lose their jobs due to advancements in technology meaning they are no longer needed for that specific job role. 

The high cost of oral care products is limiting their widespread adoption this is due to the lack of reimbursement policies. 

S – Trends, Higher demand, we prioritize image and having nice teeth so customers are more likely to spend money on maintaining their oral health. 

The UK is more educated in oral health than other countries. For example, we are brought up on the idea of brushing twice a day and looking after our teeth. China change toothbrush every 3-6 months so they have a higher demand for toothbrushes because they’re changing them all the time. The older generation are more susceptible to dental problems so there is rise in demand due to the rise of caries and periodontal diseases. 

There is less of an interest in mouthwash and flossing in general.

People are living longer so there are more older people with different oral health needs. e.g. denchers 

T – Oral health uses the internet to promote and raise awareness of its oral health products using both social media and general websites to educate its customers. People lose their jobs due to advancements in technology meaning they are no longer needed for that specific job role. Electric toothbrushes have a long lifecycle as they can be recharged easily and clean deeper than a regular toothbrush.  Musical toothbrushes for kids to get them more engaged in cleaning their teeth and general oral health. 

E – Affordable. They have a range of toothbrushes costing different amounts, so everyone can access it.  Offers are often available for electric toothbrushes so the public can afford it.

S – Through studies Oral-B has been found to not be the best toothbrush available yet it is the one we use because it is the brand we’ve heard of and rely on due to its marketing. There is a range of children’s toothbrushes keeping up with the latest trends such as Cars and Frozen. They do Pro-Health for each individual age group, so you stick with the same brand through the years just upgrading your PH stage.

Technology 

Colgate use technology to promote their products to all their customers, and they use different ways to advertise their toothpaste in order to attract their different target markets. For example, if Colgate wanted to specifically attract  adults, they would post their advertisements on social networking sites such as Facebook, twitter, Instagram. 

Moreover, Colgate will use tv advertisement to get their message across and give out important information to their customers. Using tv advertisement is an effective way of advertisement as a lot of people watch tv therefore their advertisement will be reaching a bigger market compared to other types of advertisements that do not use technology such as newspaper. 

Economic 

Even though our economic state may currently be at risk, I do not think that economic issues will have a huge impact on the business. This means that whatever the state of the economy is, consumers will always still pay for tooth brushes whether prices have increased or not as it is a necessity.  In contrast a way in which the economy could have an impact on the business is if Colgate increase their prices a lot more than other toothpaste business, then this will lead to customers using a cheaper brand due to them not being able to afford increased price of Colgate's toothpaste.
