a. Each cartoon uses techniques to represent a political situation without the necessity of explicitly explain the situation. The use of symbols to create and topical are the core of the political cartoon. However, all of them are biased because only present one posture of a country, there could be more points of view about how other countries think about the cold war. In the last BOW, there is the irony of war and peace, I think this could be biased because the war was also a way to defend and help people that was been abused or controlled. War is a bad situation that should be denounced but sometimes help others.

b. These cartoonist uses irony to present the topic and also symbols. The irony is often used to minimize the effect some topic could have on people. Also is used to create more perspectives of what could be said. The use of labels and small details like the US war helmet on 1.19, to explain and give a context. On the other hand, the context writers have could change the situation, they try to represent what they saw and the reality they lived.

c. These cartoons are probably from the 1960s to 1980s, having the context of the Cold War. These are important to our current political context because of the perspectives people build depending on the context they live and we can create a contrast between authors. Also, we can create a posture on what is a meaning for each country and the topics like war.

AOE
You can change the perspective of how you look at things by the context you are in and the message the writer wants to show. His perspective of life constructed by the context in which he lives or the topics that affect his society.

a. The cartoons of 1.19 and 1.21 show the different political opinions regarding what was going on during the Cold War, these are biased because one shows US perspective towards the Soviet Union, while the other one towards the US. Text 1.20 is biased because it shows Russia sees itself as saviors of Ukraine, but this country may not think like that.
b. These cartoonists employ details inside their drawings like the nuclear bombs in 1.19 that pass as the US soldier teeth, also by making allusion to a bear capturing its prey for food, in this case Russia capturing Ukraine to "save them".
c. The 1.19 and 1.21 cartoons are old because they date back to the Cold War which began in the year 1947, these are meaningful nowadays because it showed the perspective of each country towards their enemy. In the case of text 1.20, it is mentioned it portrays recent relations between Russia and Ukraine, this are important in the current political context because while Russia sees itself as a savior, other countries and their leaders may take their actions differently.
AOE
These cartoons make me understand better how the US and Soviet Union had a political rivalry but specially a weapon one, it is known it had limited recourse to weapon, but both countries were in a constant competition regarding the weaponry each owned. This is why the US viewed the Soviet Union as a country that had them filled and threatened of nuclear weapons, while the Soviet Union showed how the US was aways making strategies, looking for ways of attacking and employing their weaponry when all they want is peace.

a) We can understand that they are making reference about a political matter when we see the symbols that the artist uses, for example the bear with the word Russia, the soldier that has in the head the two letter US making reference of Unitaded States. We can see that this can be a evidence of the use of bias.

b) The text 1.19 we can see like an exageration of a men eating like a world but his teeths are missiles or weapons. In the text 1.20 we can see a Bear eating a fish but they have words in their body, the bear has the word Russia and the fish Crimea. The text 1.21 the author use the reference about trying to manipulate the people with money because we can see a person that is like giving orders with a mic that is connected to money.

c) I think that the text 1.19 and 1.21 are very old because we can see like reference about the cold war, this war was in 1947 so the political context is located on this date. In the image 1.20 we can see a reference about the relationship of Russia and Ucraine, so it can be something in the actuality.

AOE QUESTION

Activity 4.1
A) These cartoons show different countries' positions regarding nuclear armament, international relationships with other nations, and how government speakpeople portray their actions to the public. As all these postures relate with the government and adopt different sides of an argument, they show an opinion about those topics and can be considered political. The evidence of bias is identified when you compare the cartoon's author and his/her background with the opinion that is portrayed in the drawings. For example, Text 1.19 must have certainly being made by a Russian or Eastern author, because it portrays the U.S. as a predatory nation that uses nuclear weapons to subordinate others (and it is clear that a U.S. citizen would never present his/her own country that way). The same happens with Text 1.21, as it portrays the U.S. as an hypocritical nation that says something and does something else.

B) The drawing in Text 1.19 is very self-explanatory, as the missiles in the soldier's mouth are clearly visible, and the only "topical" it uses is the word "U.S." on the soldier's hat. At just glancing it we can understand its meaning and reprobatory view on U.S. foreign affairs.
The drawing in Text 1.20 uses a metaphor expressed cleverly by drawings: the topicals "Russia", "Crimea" and the bear's bubble of thought just make it clearer. The metaphor is that Russia is "eating" (like a bear would do) or withholding Crimea to its jurisdiction in the name of "humanitarian aid", but is only affecting it negatively (like a fish who is being devoured by a predator).
The drawing in Text 1.21 requires more observation as many symbolic objects are portrayed and need to be paid close attention to understand the drawing's overall meaning, such as the soldier's money and gun inside his pockets, the broadcaster's microphone connected to money and his hand holding wheat, and the soldier's drawings of airplanes on a map. They represent bias in news media, and once again the U.S. hypocritical stance in front of the international community.

C) Text 1.19 and Text 1.21 date back from the Cold War, and Text 1.20 is more recent, approximately from 2014. They are meaningful to our political context because they provide a background for current international relationships between Western and Eastern countries, and how they have been shaped by historic events. Also this helps us examine as citizens current decisions regarding political affairs and tell our governments to learn what not do do based on the past (like 2nd World War).

AOE Question
These cartoons allow us to observe both sides of the story, and analyze by ourselves to what extent were these countries' postures right or wrong, and if they justified the armed measures that they took at the time. It also helps us develop our critical thought regarding political matters, which is very important to us to become world citizens.

a)I the firts one we can saw that there is a Beer that represents Rusia and how they are like manipulating the reality and perspectives of its citizens to make them believe that they are right. The other photo is from the United States and shows a person or a military man eating the world that could represent how the US government wants the whole of the planet. The latter represents the USA as well, but it shows a person speaking in the pocket of a soldier that could symbolize how the media manipulates citizens to support their homeland in some possible attack or war.
b)They used by the cartoonists would be to put a large image that captures the attention of the audience and with that image to be able to interpret the country that the cartoon will be about and then the rest of the details are left to the public's free interpretation.
c)The 3 images focuses on a period of war that of the year 1947 in which it speaks of a historical period which is the cold war. In that confrontation it was possible to see how the USA and the Russian mother fought for territory and power and these drawings interpret the problems both political and of all kinds that those world powers had.
4)Cartoons 1 and 3 help me to understand what the political confrontation over Russia and the USA was like and how they both had different points of view on how to rule the world.

a)They show opinion with Situational Irony expressing strong stances like world manipulation through drawings. Bias is evidenced in the country that the cartoon is from itself, as each goverment heavily influences on the opinions given. For example 1,19 is surely made by a Russian influenced author as they are expressing how the united states want s to control the world and acess to a nuclear war. In the other hand in 1,21 they are expressing the manipulation of USA in certain countries and how their political leaders may preach safety while backstabing the rest because of a money interest.
b)The attention to detail and the colros used gets progresivelly improved as you move on to the cartoons. The foreshadowing and irony of it gets more detailed as you advance from cartoon to cartoon.

The cartoon 1.19 and the 1.21 are about the political differences between US and the soviet union, under the context of the cold war. the 1.20 is about russia against other country. the bear is a symbol that represents in this case Russia. the use of symbols, details such as the characters that are part of the cartoon or differentes things are important for the construction of meanings in the cartoon and the bias.
b. in the 1.21, the details like the money or thecharacter that is in the pecket of the US soldier is important to create the meaning that the author of the cartoon wants to express to the public the use of color is also important to generate interest to the public to the cartoon. in the 1.20, it shows also different colors and also the fact of the comparisson of animals use to the creation of the cartoon. the bear and the fish, is important to show the irnoty of what the bear is saying to the fish. in the 1.19, the lack of colors and the simplicity to do the cartoon is clrear.

4.1
a)The political cartoons of 1.19 and 1.21 show the different political opinions about the Soviet Union and USA during the Cold War.Both are biased because they are presented from the perspective of a specific country and how they see the rival country, for example by showing the US taking down and eating up the Soviet Union and all its technological tools. And in image 1.21shows how the Soviet Union thinks about the United States. In the cartoon, 1.20 shows a preference for Russia for being Ukraine's saviors, but Ukraine probably doesn't think the same or doesn't want to be saved by another country.

b)Their main purpose, though, is not to amuse you but to persuade you. A good political cartoon makes you think about current events, but it also tries to sway your opinion toward the cartoonist's point of view. The cartoons that were presented are super specific when using tools where they make the axis of the teeth in image 1.19 because it focuses on expressing the US country by pressuring the Soviet Union as missiles. In cartoon 1.20 they focus on using animals and various positions to see how Russia thinks that being a superpower has the power to remove others from the image. And in cartoon 1.21 different types of calligraphy and size are used to show the symbolism of the words present, there is use of colors such as yellow and brown for the officers' costume. They help to capture the political and economic context in which countries find themselves and the actions that their leaders take to be better and move forward.
c)The cartoons previously analyzed are from more than 70 years ago at the time of the Cold War of 1942 and are important to know about the conflicts of superpowers and the aggression they carried out on each other.
AOE question
Through cultural contexts, you develop the ability to communicate and interact effectively with people across cultures who have varying beliefs and schedules when they are writing, since people think different regarding technologies and topics.Social context can affect the extent to which writers and readers share common experiences and expectations about a text. Cultural context will affect the fundamental assumptions, beliefs, and aspirations that they bring to the reading of a text.

The cartoon criticizes and shows the situation that it's happening and the political confrontations due to the cold war. It’s the representation of the moment and the Russia and United States and the bias that the cartoons represent.

All they use dark colors, probably as a representation of the dark moments the world was having or the severed of the topic, also shows the countries like huge representations. In all of them they show the power and magnitude of the countries through the drawing.

Thi cartoons are from the Cold War (1947-1991). They could be an important representation and perspective to the viewer, that acquires a new point of view and information of the current situation.

a) One cartoon is made by the US and this being Russia being portraied as a bear killing people which they pretend to protect, the second photo represents the US as a monster eating what they can of the world and probabily made by Russia as propagando against the US of them being greedy.

b) The bear one, the author used a bear to symbolize Russia and a fish named crimea, where they are killing it, the author wanted to represent Russia being the bad guy in the Crimea situation and how instead of helping them they would be eating them. In the second picture the author used the US army as terrorizers which would eat the world using their nuclear power filled with greed to get what they want from the world

c) These cartoons are from the cold war, they were very meaningful to keep popular opinion on the side they showed these pictures.
