  • Anna Garcia was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease when she was a baby and later with Type 1 Diabetes.
  • She has a family history of Heart disease, high cholesterol, and early heart disease
  • When she was 14 months, she went to the doctor and has pale skin 
  • At 14 years, she went to the doctor for her fatigue and had high amounts of glucose in her urine
  • Anna had blood tests done at 37 because of chest pains which revealed high levels of LDL cholesterol
  • When she was 38, she went to the hospital for a sickle cell crisis where she had a catheter inserted
    • this lead to a urinary tract infection
  • When Anna got an Angiogram which showed a blockage in the left anterior descending coronary artery

  • Sickle Cell Anemia
    • Anna Garcia has been diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease since she was a baby. With Sickle, a person can develop Sickle Cell Anemia which can lead to death due to the lack of oxygen. A lack of oxygen will cause the death of cells, tissues, and even organ which can ultimately lead to death.
  • Diabetes Complications
    • Ketone was detected in her urine which indicated DKA which is a complication of Diabetes which we also she has due to her medical histories along with the high glucose levels in her urine.
  • Stroke
    • Anna's high cholesterol and sickle cell can lead to a blockage of blood flow to the brain which will cause a stroke.
  • Heart Attack
    • Along with Anna's family history of heart disease and her high cholesterol, a heart attack is likely. The Angiogram presented showed a blockage in her coronary artery which can cause a heart attack if not treated.
  • Urinary Infection
    • When Anna went to the hospital for a sickle cell crisis, a catheter was inserted to assist her. After she left the hospital she developed a urinary track infection due to the catheter. A urinary track infection can be lethal if left untreated. It can travel up to the kidney and cause kidney failure and other organ failures and even death.
