In our essay, we covered the element of vivacious, otherwise known as, "feel good" music. This overview of music encompasses many different genres of music. However, it has many characteristics in common with one another. For example, loudness, cheerful lyrics, or a fast tempo, are some of the most common characteristics that "feel good" music carries.

A Very Vivacious Song

One of the very first examples we used in our essay was "Can't Stop the Feeling" by Justin Timberlake. My group member, Grace, explained the vivaciousness of the song through a scenario she experienced as she was walking through the Library Mall.

"Many things drew me to the song: the loudness, the fast tempo, the seemingly dissonant, but somehow consonant harmony, and the conjunct melody."

"Vivacious or “feel good” music can mean a variety of things to different people, but physically your brain “releases dopamine-- the ‘feel good’ neurochemical” when you listen to music that you enjoy (Psychology Today). This means that your brain can’t help but feel happy when you are listening to pleasurable music; it is quite literally in your DNA."

"...the song gives the audience the similar “feel good” effect (to Can't Stop the Feeling), but the harmony is highly dissonant and the melody is both conjunct and disjunct. “Uptown Funk” is not very similar to “Can’t Stop the Feeling”, but the audience still enjoys a similar feeling."

" Good Vibrations by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, uses parts like pitch variables from Mark and his low tone to the higher pitch in the female lead vocalist. The sound producer and Mark also seem to use different registers that are complementary, consonant and dissonant harmonies throughout the song, a very unique form that many use an identifier and polyphonic texture that makes the song very unique."
