I belive that the hardest challenge George Washington faced was defining the authority of the central government. The reason I choose this over the others, is because the other options were done by his cabinet. Hamilton was establishing the economy, Jefferson foreign relations, Knox national defense, and Randolph the federal court system. Washington had to define the presidency, and keep the country unified.

The debt that the United States went through was massive from the Revolutionary War. George Washington put Alexander Hamilton on the job to fix this problem. But it was not easy for him. He made a plan and a lot of people complained about it. He was tasked with stabling the economics of a whole country by himself.
