This is an example of irony since they did what Mrs Hutchinson said and she still said its unfair.

This is irony because Ms.Hutchinson thought winning the lottery is a good thing, but it is actually a bad thing

This is Irony because the reader thinks that this is just kids playing but they are really collecting rocks to kill someone.

This would be foreshadowing and kind of verbal irony, since 'farewell' can mean goodbye forever, and at the ends of the story, Mrs.Hutchinson dies.

"Mrs. Hutchinson reached her husband, and Mr. Summers, who had been waiting, said cheerfully, 'Thought we were going to have to get on without you, Tessie.'"

This is ironic because if she hadn't showed up to The Lottery, she wouldn't have been killed.

This is an example of irony because Mrs. Hutchinson is joking and laughing, little does she know, she will be the on picked and will die in the end.

This is ironic because kids are giving Davy pebbles to throw at and kill his own mother.

This is ironic because if they did start without her she would not be dead but she showed up and got chosen to die

“I think we ought to start over,” Mrs. Hutchinson said, as quietly as she could. “I tell you it wasn’t fair. You didn’t give him time enough to choose. Everybody saw that.”

This is an example of irony because earlier in the story when everyone was choosing she didn't say a word about her husband not being given enough time. But now that he won she immediately came up with reasons for why he should not have the winning slip of paper.

“Some places have already quit lotteries,” Mrs. Adams said.

“Nothing but trouble in that,” Old Man Warner said stoutly. “Pack of young fools.”

This is ironic because when places have quit the lottery it is better because there isn't people being killed but old man warner said that it is better if people are being killed and there is no trouble with people being killed.

This is verbal irony because she meant to say farewell for the time being, but it was actually the last time they would spend time with each other.

This is an example of irony because it is funny how Mrs. Hutchinson is making fun of someone for not getting up there but little does she know she would be the one to die at the end.

Tessie said that it wasnt fair even tho she knows that if it were someone else she wouldnt have said anything about unfairness

“Listening to the young folks, nothing’s good enough for them. Next thing you know, they’ll be wanting to go back to living in caves"

I thought this was ironic because the kids (Young folks) were going to use rocks in order to hurt someone which is cave-like.

This is an example of dramatic irony. This quote really talks about how they were laughing and telling Bill to get up, and everyone took it funny.

She was trying to have everyone participate, in the death game. And when she got chosen she said it wasn't fair.
