Before he can do this, he and Donkey must fight a platoon of soldiers before getting to confront Farquad. Donkey is very afraid of the bridge to the tower, and Shrek needs to trick Donkey to get him to the other side or else he would not in spite of fear. Shrek successfully retrieves the Princess and gets Donkey out of an undesirable position. Rather than defeat the dragon, Shrek immobilizes it so that the now group of three can escape safely. So instead of finishing the journey at once, they decide to stay out of the kingdom for one more night before getting there. Fiona rests in a building they camped next to. It is here where Donkey discovers that Fiona becomes an Ogre at sundown.
