In the book Rule by Three by Megan McDonald, Stevie desires to be the lead for the upcoming school play, Once Upon a Mattress. Her sister, Alex, had not planned to audition for the play, because the leading role involved singing, and she was unbelievably bad at it. However, she changes her mind and decides to also audition for the play. When they both announce they want to audition, the sisters break out into a fight and ignore each other until the auditions. Consequently, Stevie tries her hardest and sings beautifully to get in the play. When auditions are over, they travel home in silence. Afterwards, the cast list goes up. Stevie rushes over and finds out that Alex got the leading role, and she is devastated! A couple of weeks later, on opening night, Alex does a terrible job. Stevie must step in and take over her role! Finally, when Alex is found crying in the closet, because she was so embarrassed, the sisters have a heart-to-heart talk. They reconcile and are true sisters again.

She was specifically scared of tryouts, because she was afraid she wouldn't make it because of her talented sister. However, I always remind myself that it will be OK if I don't make it, and God is with me.
