Meta and Microsoft have joined the tech layoff tsunami. Is AI really to blame?

Layoffs at companies like Meta and Microsoft are partly driven by massive investments in AI, which shift budgets from hiring to infrastructure. AI tools are also increasing productivity, allowing smaller teams to do work that once required more employees. However, layoffs are not new and are also influenced by cost-cutting, restructuring, and broader economic pressures. Overall, AI is a contributing factor, but not the sole cause of the tech layoff wave.

https://theconversation.com/meta-and-microsoft-have-joined-the-tech-layoff-tsunami-is-ai-really-to-blame-281436

Chau Gia Huy

A Chinese food blogger has caused a sensation with her crystal-clear fried chicken, sparking both curiosity and disgust on social media.

Chinese food blogger Cai Nan has sparked a huge debate online after creating "crystal fried chicken" that looks exactly like transparent glass. To pull this off, he uses molecular gastronomy to turn real chicken into a liquid before "rebuilding" the bone, meat, and skin using specialized molds and gels. While his technical skills are undeniably impressive, the internet is divided—some people love the artistic creativity, while others find the clear, "alien" look too creepy to actually eat. It’s definitely less about satisfying hunger and more of a wild experiment pushing the boundaries of what we consider food.

Link: https://share.google/ttgLeYltRcCFZSZ2C

Phú Quốc — the island in southern Việt Nam — is rapidly becoming a top destination for Korean travellers. Visitor numbers from Korea are rising quickly, and they now play a major role in the island’s tourism growth.

According to Korean media reports on May 2, Phú Quốc, once a quiet and little-known destination about 20 years ago, has experienced one of the most impressive transformations in Việt Nam. This change has been driven by major infrastructure development and the rapid expansion of luxury resorts.

In addition to a wide range of entertainment options, the island is introducing high-end resorts that offer privacy and close-to-nature experiences. Korean visitors now account for a large share of guests at many of these resorts, making up over 70% in some cases. The increase in direct flights from Incheon, along with Phú Quốc’s safety and convenience, has further boosted the number of Korean tourists.

https://vietnamnews.vn/life-style/1780829/rok-media-decodes-phu-quoc-phenomenon-why-guam-and-saipan-are-being-replaced.html
