There is a local legend about how the name “Gombak” came from the Malay word timbunan or gombak, which means “a pile” or “a heap.” It is said that long ago, people who travelled by river saw piles of sand and stones formed by the strong water flow, and they started calling the place “Gombak.” Some also believe that the name came from the riverbanks that looked like heaps of soil. This story shows how people in the past named places based on what they saw in nature. The legend teaches us to appreciate our natural surroundings and the importance of observing the world around us.

Terdapat satu kisah legenda tentang asal-usul nama “Gombak.” Dikatakan bahawa nama ini berasal daripada perkataan Melayu timbunan atau gombak, yang bermaksud longgokan atau himpunan. Dahulu, orang yang melalui sungai di kawasan itu melihat timbunan pasir dan batu yang terbentuk akibat arus sungai yang kuat, lalu mereka menamakan tempat itu “Gombak.” Ada juga yang percaya nama itu berasal daripada tebing sungai yang kelihatan seperti timbunan tanah.
