For example, Prudence Crandall, opened a school for girls in Canterbury, Connecticut and two years later admitted an african american girl. They decided that that school would be an african american school.

A result from this was that prisons were being studied and looked into by Dorthea Dix. After this it was noted that a lot of simply mental ill people were in prison because there were no hospitals for these people. In many of the Southern States several mental hospitals and procedures for mentally ill prisons were put in place.
