They both have their own "idols" that they look up to and believe. For example "Allah" and "Adonai" as gods. Both of their religion are also discriminated and stereotyped (Jewish for money and muslim for terrorism) and scapegoated. Both of their families want them to marry a man from their religion that is practicing their religion.

The society consider their friendship "weird" because they are from two very different and opposite religions. "This Jewish girl and this Muslim girl are far more similar than our religions would like us to believe, because I betcha didn't realize that we have the same favorite movies..." As seen when the Jewish Girl says:

Jewish:
Greedy, people who gain money in bad ways, and weak.
Seen when the Muslim Girl says:
"Dirty Money" and "Big Nosed Banker"
