I do not think this is everyone or a rampant problem, but it is the computing dilemma most applicable to a student population. It is the reason we have rules about plagiarism and attributing credit to others' intellectual property. Technology is a tool or means we use to help facilitate our learning, which must be done independently.

If anything, it might be easier using technology since all the world's collective information is available at our fingertips. First, they should have independent principles to provide their own intellectual property, or to cite others when they are inspired by another idea. 

However, I know there may be some people that do not care about computing or educational ethics, evident by the existence of plagiarism. Therefore, something else that can be done is institutions (colleges, social media sites, workplaces) should have some published code of conduct or contract where users agree to only represent their own work, such as part of a Terms & Conditions list. 

Finally, I think educating others on what constitutes plagiarism would help immensely, as some people may not be aware of their issue.
