Gremlins (1984)

The first clip I have decided to use is from the film Gremlins which was released in 1984 and directed by Steven Spielberg. In the scene the gremlins are distracting the elderly woman while another gremlin is sabotaging her stairlift so that when she uses it it will zoom up the steps and make her fly out of the window and kill her. The first shot used is a close up of the cat flap. I believe this shot is used to increase the tension in the scene and make the audience scared. A close up shot is used to show the fear on the woman's face as she is home alone and has heard a strange noise in her house. The reason this shot is used is to show the audience how the character is feeling. Towards the end of the scene they use a wide shot to show the woman being flown out of the house on her stairlift to show that she is going to fall to her death. This is used to put fear into the audience to make them scared of the Gremlins as this clip shows how deadly they can be. We see the gremlins wearing hats and scarves to show that it is winter time. We also see Mrs Deagle locking the door to keep herself safe from the creatures. When the stairlift speeds up we see everything behind the character flashing and whizzing past which makes us believe she is getting faster and that she is in danger.

Jurassic park (1993)

The second movie I have decided to use is Jurassic Park which was also directed by Steven Spielberg. In the clip we see the main characters trapped in cars trying to stay quiet so the dinosaur doesn't hear them. In particular there is one little part where a character is running and the camera moves with the actor which makes the film seem more real and more believable. However the camera may have not been moving with the actor as the floor may have been a track and the camera could have been moving on the track while the actor just kept running on the spot. The audience would feel scared as the film looked realistic as did the other film I used. There is a similarity to the other clip I used in this clip as towards the end of my first clip you see two males in a car looking shocked as to what is happening and the exact same thing happens in this clip. In the clip they use a lot of low angle shots to show the scale of the T rex prop to put fear into the audience and make them believe it is real and to support the illusion and make us believe that it is real.
