History of the women's day:

The international women's day is celebrated every year on March 8th. The meaning of women's day is to remember the political, social and economic achievements of women and the violence they suffered in history. The history of the women's festival dates back to the early twentieth century: for a long time, the choice of March 8 was a tragedy that occurred in 1908, which would have as protagonists the workers of Cotton textile industry in New York, killed by a fire . The fire of 1908 was however confused with another fire in the same city, which occurred in 1911 and where 146 victims were recorded, including many women. The facts that really led to the establishment of the Women's Day are actually more related to the claim of women's rights, including the right to vote.
Let's see together what is the story of the women's party and its meaning.

In September 1944, the UDI, the Women Union in Italy, was created in Rome, on the initiative of women belonging to the PCI, the PSI, the Action Party, the Christian Left and the Labor Democracy and it was the UDI that took the initiative to celebrate, on March 8, 1945, the first day of women in the areas of free Italy, while in London a Woman's Card containing requests for equal rights and work was approved and sent to the UN. With the end of the war, March 8, 1946 was celebrated throughout Italy and saw the first appearance of its symbol, the mimosa, which blooms between February and March, according to an idea of Teresa Noce, Rita Montagnana and Teresa Mattei.

The women's party has lost its initial value. While there are women's organizations that continue to try to raise public awareness about the various issues affecting women - such as violence against women and the pay gap compared to men - many women consider this day as an opportunity to go out alone with friends, leaving husbands, companions and children at home, and indulge in some "whim", that maybe in other evenings would not be allowed.

On the afternoon of March 25, 1911, a fire that began on the eighth floor of the Shirtwaist Company killed 146 workers of both sexes. Most of them were young Italian or Jewish women from Eastern Europe. Since the factory occupied the last three floors of a ten-story building, 62 of the victims died in a desperate attempt to save themselves by throwing themselves out of the windows of the building as there is no other way out.
The owners of the factory, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, who at the time of the fire were on the tenth floor and kept the workers locked up for fear that they would steal or make too many pauses, they escaped and let the women die. men remained trapped. The process that followed them absolved them and the insurance paid them $ 60,000 for damages (corresponding to about $ 400 for each death), the compensation to the families was $ 75.
Thousands of people took part in the funerals of the victims.
