My stress is worn all over me. I am very emotional. Switch quickly between anger and sadness. Sometimes I forget what I was originally upset about because more continues to go wrong. I forget what I am doing or where I have left things. I am short-tempered. Currently, my stress is stemming from learning a loved one is using drugs. To protect my son, I moved us out and have told the person we are not available for anything until you get help and begin changing. I am a recovering addict going on ten years of sobriety. I think knowing both sides of this situation has its benefits yet, also has its downfalls. Experiencing this from this position is, excruciating. We are going on a month and only this last week did I start using coping skills to help reduce my stress. Putting distance between myself and my stressor is vital for my health physically and mentally. Next, I am focusing on finding healthy ways to expel stressful energy. Began going to the gym with the membership I have had for over a year and never used. Working on breathing and meditation to keep stress levels low.

Identify the risks of stress. What are the biopsychosocial effects of stress on the body, both short-term and long-term? What factors put students at risk for stress and disease?

Our bodies are well equipped to handle stress in small doses, but when that stress becomes long-term or chronic, it can have serious effects on your body ("Stress effects on the body," 2018). The initial body reaction to stress is, tightening of the muscles which generates a feeling of tension. When coping with stress effectively, this process passes quickly. However, not effectively coping with stress can cause chronic stress which leaves our bodies in an almost constant state of tension. This can cause tension-headaches, lower back pain, and pain in the upper extremities. Stress and robust emotions can present with respiratory symptoms, accelerated breathing, absence of breath, and air constriction between the lungs and nasal airway. Chronic stress can cause long-term heart and blood vessel problems. "Stress is associated with changes in gut bacteria which in turn can influence mood ("Stress effects on the body", 2018)". For women and teens girls, stress can affect menstruation. Stress can reduce sexual desire and impact reproductive plans. PMS symptoms may be worse due to stress.
Students are more susceptible to stress due to relationships, getting good grades becomes more difficult, and social pressures add to stress in students (Koebele, 2020). By moving around to get the blood flowing and breathe in fresh air are ways to cope with pressures. Keeping your workload at something attainable. Listening to music and meditating help manage stress.

Establishing a social network can help with coping with stress. Cast a wide net when seeking social support. One may not find one person to confide in they may find multiple people to help with different things. Following one's interests and joining an activity just for fun.
There are local resources online to help individuals struggling with stress. Researching one's local resources puts you in touch with the appropriate resource.

In my opinion, sharing my personal experience is a case by case basis. Some clients may need to hear someone else has been through similar and here is what they did to come out the other side successfully.
