He published his first text book in British America name as New England Primer and edited the first multi-page newspaper there , Public Occurrences Both Forreign and Domestick on 25 September 1690.

His contributions in the field of journalism was From 1679-1687, Harris published a paper that displayed an early use of local news title, Domestick Intelligence : Or News both from City and Country. He also created his own book shop that contributed to children’s literature . He also printed children’s books , almanacs and the Bible .Besides that , he also had his own print shop . Harris was also active in community service , supporting homeless shelters and orphanages .

After publishing the pamphlet, Appeal from the Country to the City in 1679 he was convicted of sedition and ordered to pay a fine that he could not afford. After being releases from prison, Harris resumed his anti-Catholic speak.
