Question #3: It plays a big role, as culture is one of the significant aspects of our lives growing up, which we carry with us. What you were raised with, or 'kinalakihan mo,' will eventually reflect in how you view  things. It also influences how we perceive success and failure—shaping our determination to achieve our goals and how we handle setbacks along the way.

3. . Culture shapes our perception of success and failure, as we view or idolize other people, and that is how we view our success. Success in money, talent, and other areas comes from our cultures from past generations. It can determine what is and is not valuable, thus, pushing us to act in accordance to to it. It influences our overall attitude, as in the way we approach problems, make decisions, and choose our priorities. It is kind of giving us a pre-planned or pre-determined future which dictates our criteria of what a successful person is.

Culture shapes the way we think because the community we grew up with embodies a special kind of culture, and it is through this community where we learn the basics of the world and what to do in it. Thus, the beliefs that reflect both the culture and the community are reflected in the individual. For example, if you grew up with loving parents, you understand why they behave like that, and end up as loving as they are. While on the other hand, if you grew up in a toxic/competitive family, you'll only understand love through that lens and first expect others beyond that initial circle to act the same way

Culture influences how we view success and failure because it shapes what we value. In different cultures, people may see their achievements in various ways. For example, as the presenters mentioned, success in Filipino culture is often defined by reaching personal goals while also supporting family and community. This reflects the strong emphasis Filipinos place on family bonds and relationships with others.

3) Success and failure are perceived differently across cultures, encompassing various aspects like academics, family, and career. This diversity can create pressure to conform to societal expectations, leading to inner conflict for those whose ideals don’t align with their personal values. Additionally, individuals may be unfairly labeled as failures for progressing at their own pace. Instead of chasing external definitions, we should pursue a version of success that nurtures our well-being and allows us to thrive on our own terms.

3. Sometimes, we tend to forget what we truly want because we are forced to see a specific future set for us. In a way, we dont realize it’s not what our true self wants but more of what we want people to see. I think our perception of success and failure depend on the culture we are a part of because the culture is part of the environment we grow up in, so we end up having the same mindset as what is said in the cultures. An example would be strict asian households that expect high scores or achievements from their children.

Our culture shapes our values and norms the most, which in turn determines how we view ourselves and how we interact with others. In the Filipino culture, we are taught to be respectful and to be hospitable and we show that in how we interact with others.

Question 3

Success and failure is determined by culture based on the criteria that certain culture have for example one culture could say that just living and having enough money to live is success. For example, in western countries, overtime they have broadened their definition of success so it can be through sports, music, literature, etc. Like in the states, you can drop out but as long as you start a business that does well or become famous then they can view you as successful. In asian countries however, we were brought up to finish school and taking up any profession that is not being a doctor, lawyer, nurse, or engineer, is seen as a failure (someone who will not make money)...unless they prove them otherwise.
