Counting Stars

• After the students learned about Katherine Johnson and how great she was at counting, the students wanted to count too! The teachers then created an activity where in groups the students would count all of these tiny little stars on a piece of paper. This required strategy, precision, and accuracy.

Creating their Own Rockets

• After learning about scientist, Mary Jackson who was known for her work in wind tunnels, the students wanted to create and test their own rockets. They made their own rockets out of toilet paper rolls, aluminum foil, construction paper, and glue. The students were also given a specific amount of tape to use to secure their rockets. From then, the rockets were tested at various wind speeds with a blow dryer!
