litter picker

My son has asked for a litter picker for his birthday. I was really pleased with this request as it shows that he understands the importance of looking after the environment. We often go litter picking in the playing field behind our house, my son loves to talk to the people we come across in the field this is expanding his communication skills.

nerf gun

One of the gifts my son has asked for is a nerf gun, this can be good for communication when played in teams, its also good exercise , each child will have to run around and hide. Playing with nerf guns in playful and child friendly setting can can promote good communication skills.

Analysis

The accessibility of the waiver was extremely easy, the word 'waiver' was in a bold brightly coloured box at the top of the website page.

There is a lot of text to be considered in the waiver, My first impression was the clarity of the text and how the waiver was laid out. The text is in bold type and each point was a bullet point making it easy read the important information.

The waiver has been written in plain English making it easy for the average person to read and understand. There was no complexed legal terminology or jargon used the waiver to confuse the average person. I also looked out for any ambiguous terms that i could find confusing as i am aware that this can be a common way of baffling the consumer. The waiver has been designed to be inclusive of people with all literacy levels. The language was constant throughout the waiver. In decided to sign the waiver for my child as i understood all the important information.

A waiver is something that we will have to read and understand frequently in everyday life, this can be defined as a literacy event, Barton suggests that "literacy events are activities where literacy has a role usually there is a written text at the body of the event"

The planning of my sons birthday party began with a conversation between my husband, my son and myself. We were discussing play centres that we'd been to before and parties that my son had attended. My son really wanted to try somewhere new that none of his friends had been to before. I started to research play centres on the internet, i used google to find out if there was anywhere new in Cardiff that we could try. I found a brand new place called FUN HQ. My son and i started to look through the gallery of photographs, we both agreed that it looked really good. I found the website really informative and discovered the price list. The prices were quite expensive compared to other play centres...

Fun HQ - £9 per child

Jump - £5 per child

Buzz - £10 per child

Antz in ya pantz - £4 per child

Although it was one of the more expensive places we decided it was value for money as they offered a one to one climbing experience for each child and access to the playzone.

We decided on inviting 6 of my sons friends. I used my phone to work out the cost.

6x9=£54

This amount was within our budget. My husband and i decided that we would try to stick to a budget of £200 for the party, we quickly worked out that we wouyld be well within our budget to supply food for the children and a birthday cake.

I looked at purchasing some invitations but we then decided that i would set up a whatsapp group with the parents of the children my son wanted to invite. This would make it easier for them to RSVP, refer back to any information about the party and to keep in touch going forward. The details included; What the party entailed, where the party was going to be held, The date and the time.

I sent the FUN HQ waiver via whatsapp so the parents could sign it individually for their child.

After the running around FUN HQ for 2 hours , we'll be taking the hungry children to a nearby McDonald's for their dinner.

The happy meals are approximately £3.99

My son has been reading "The Lion the Witch and the wardrobe" at school and has been really enjoying it. I decided to get him the complete set of Narnia books to read with me at home. I believe that reading at home and being read to is vital for children of all ages to expand their literacy skills. It is imperative for children growing up to understand how important literacy skills are as they get older and become an adult, literacy is needed in everyday life. This is backed up by Mace (Literacy, Language and the Community).
