My photography genre of choice is architectural photography, the craft of capturing man-made forms, patterns, and structures that by its very nature cannot be fully processed by the human eye. When photographing my subjects, I incorporated compositional techniques and focused on abstract angles and contrasting values. The aim of this piece is to create tones and depth, something that may be lacking in a normal engraving process.

“More human than human”, 2022
The subject of my drawing is a character from the sci-fi dystopian film Blade Runner (1982), which I chose because this franchise in particular really fits the theme I’m trying to explore. The setting of Blade Runner is the smog choked decaying dystopian Los Angeles, where synthetic human knows as ‘replicants’ with para-physical abilities are bio-engineered to work as workers or labor slaves. These human servants look exactly like us and are capable of developing complex emotions and recollections of memories over time. Part of Blade Runner's enduring appeal are the questions it poses about the nature of humanity— if replicants are just like us, what really separates the two? What makes humans, humans?

How we allow other people to treat us is a reflection of the treatment we think we deserve. Though simple, it took me years of growth to truly grasp hold of this very common phenomenon. In the process of shaping my self-esteem and confidence, I’ve learned to only accept what I believe is best for me and stop compromising, as well as acknowledge that there are plenty of prospects available for me. This piece is a reminder for myself to be intentional with every opportunity and connection I allow into my life. I quoted Stephen Chbosky's line from his book The Perks of Being a Wallflower as I think it perfectly puts this concept into words. My aim for this piece is to get people to reflect on their perception of themselves, I believe that it really boils down to our perception of self that is in turn determined by the very self-worth that we attach to ourselves.
