The whole idea behind the Manifest Destiny was the belief that it was the United States destiny to expand farther on the continent. And that's exactly what they did. The biggest benefit the Manifest Destiny brought upon the United States was the addition of more land.

During this time period, The Civil War was happening at the same time as the Manifest Destiny. Because of this, their was an increased need for food and supplies. The Manifest Destiny was a big help to food production because this opened up more land to be available for crop production.

One of the things that brought people to the west is sought out goods. These goods were gold, silver, oil, etc. Events like the California Gold Rush and the Comstock Lode were big drives which brought groups of people at one time. The movement to the west was beneficial because some people who weren't able to access wealth in the east were able to do so in the west.

One of the biggest negatives that happened at this time was the fight over land. Already, the Indians had been treated terribly by the explorers and the citizens of the United States. This is another time in history where the Indians were taken off their land and put in a place where they had to start all over again.

Even before the Manifest Destiny began, Indians were targeted and most of the times killed or severely injured. With the add-in of this move, Indians were once again moved off of the land given to them by the government aka reservations. Since many more people moved to the west, the Indians had to move to different reservations, some dying on the way there.

Considering all the events that happened before the Manifest Destiny, people in this time are now going back to the life routine of focusing on Religion. But when the Manifest Destiny came around, many people began to "manipulate" religions. They would do this to get people to feel bad for them so that they could advance in their personal interests.

Pertaining to this topic, I think the American's have been wrong for doing what they have done since they "discovered" this land. I think what they did was a terribly wrong act towards the Indians. The Indians were the original people of this land, the land that the past Americans simply took away the land. The Indians were shown no respect. I wish I could say that the American's had a valid reason behind their acts but they did not. Therefore, I do not agree with how the Manifest Destiny was acted upon.
