Week 2: Protagonist

In week 2, Felix has been capable of finding his parent’s store. But when he started looking for his mom, dad, and others he had a foul feeling. He couldn’t find any of them. He is devastated because they’ve all been taken into the city. He carelessly enters the city with no idea where his parent’s are. He finds himself lost and on the streets searching for food numerous times.

Week 2: Minor Characters

In the story, Mr. Kopek tells Felix about what happened to the Jews in the town. This changes the story because Felix was fixated that his parents were there in the village. He tells him that he should hide in the mountains, away from the nazis. But Felix refuses because he has no Jewish books. Later in the story, Felix meets a girl named Zelda. She relates to Felix because she’s lost her parents too. This is important because Felix now has a companion who has similar problems in their life. But she’s injured and much younger than Felix so he treats her like an older brother.

Week 2: Setting

The setting is very different from last week compared to this week. During week 1, he was in an orphanage for most of the time. There was not many Nazis around as well as people outside of orphanage. Outside of the orphanage, there were small towns and forests that have been partially emptied from the Nazis taking all the Jews to the city. In week 2, Felix is has made his way to the city. It is filled with Nazis patrolling the area and Jews sleeping on the streets. It’s messy and Felix spends his time surviving and looking for food. Week 2’s setting changes drastically compared to week 1.

Week 2: Conflict

In the story, there is many conflicts Felix faces. He is in the city terrified looking for his parents. There is no adult to be found, the streets are filled with Nazis. Felix also is struggling to survive in the city. There isn’t anywhere to sleep, and it makes it much harder with Zelda. He has to scavenge for food on the streets. He needs to make sure that the Nazis won’t catch him. The conflicts in the story effect Felix a lot.

Week 2: Author’s Message

The message the author is trying to send is that the world is very dangerous. For example, Felix went from being handed everything in an orphanage to sleeping on the streets in a city filled with Nazis.
