Duvall and family life cycle is important because it highlights some important transitions and challenges that families face. As a counselor, this can help with family dynamnics and dealing with different martial statuses of the parents of the students. This can affect their emotional well being and sometimes academics.

Ryan and Deci and self determination is important for well being and self realization. As a counselor, this is important because it helps with a student's wellbeing and understanding their concept of self.
