We are delighted to announce the culminating exhibition of the 18th year of the LCC MA Sound Arts with an equal insistence on the unannounced. In her recent polemic essay publication, Unannounced Voices (Sternberg, 2025), curator and museum director Zdenka Badovinac insists that “the voices of change always come unannounced”, rather, “[w]e must look out the window onto the street, where our bodies are already activated.”

Whose Voices Will Announce It? gathers the work of the 17 graduating sound artists in Dilston Gallery. Through profuse practices of listening and sounding, the works attend to a multiplicity of ‘voices’ within and beyond the aesthetic practices of the gallery, from ancestors to queer love(s) to the air and soil in works that span installation, video and performance.

Alvenn Soroko explores queer listening as a form of spiritual practice; Daisy Stewart-Darling carves lino to counter silencing, proposing inner listening as resistance and healing; Anë Chora presents a performance installation re-listening to anti-migrant rhetoric; Ioustini Koutsogianni addresses the urgent issue of femicide through mimesis and immersion; Pierre Huang proposes listening as means of reclaiming agency.

Imogen Mason uses redundant technologies to explore the auditory aesthetic of ageing; Hongquan Wang presents an AI device that translates spoken language without translating meaning; Ding Huang invites us to contribute voices to a pseudo-broadcast; Jey Wang shares an unedited 96-hour recording of her daily life; Siyao Li's installation traces the presence of her late grandmother; Rikuto Fujimoto tests how identities and memories embedded in sound might be transformed.

Isabella Burnett immerses us in a dream through an experimental film with manipulated field recordings; Jinyuan Guo creates soundscapes for those who struggle to rest; Ke Ning explores occult traditions such as Hermetic Qabalah and astrology through experimental sound design; Joe Browning creates an evolving ‘sonic print’ of past landscapes; Zhaoyuan Shi turns air pollution into an audible experience; and Xingyi Liu’s sound compost decomposes, transforms, and nourishes repair.

Langham Research Centre started in 2003 with the idea of using a studio as their instrument: microphones and ¼” tape machines. They manipulated sound on tape, focusing on one or a few sound sources. LRC continue to work with obsolete equipment including tape recorders, gramophone cartridges and sine wave oscillators, to perform authentic versions of 20th century electronic repertoire (by Cage, Lucier and others) as well as their own compositions. @langhamresearch

King Monolith is a sound artist, engineer and musician from London, who unites all three disciplines in his sculptural practise. Inspired by the effect of monumental public sculpture, simultaneously ignored and mythologised, he works with heritage musical instrument parts through assemblage and automation to explore their enduring symbolic and sonic power. @a_village_idiot

A performance by MUON (Miles Lukoszevieze and Travis Yu) exploring a physicality of breath in movement and sound.

Eternal December presents Anatomy of Breath, Pt. 1, a performance by MUON (Miles Lukoszevieze and Travis Yu) exploring a new correlation between movement and sound that evidences a physicality to breath. Featuring woodwind instruments, voice, and electronics, they unearth sonic textures beyond traditional music-making and present a new intersection of performance under a dramaturgic approach.

The screening will be accompanied by a conversation with Lithuanian artist and composer Lina Lapelytė and Lev Bratishenko, writer, curator, critic, and Twister of Meaning at The Cosmic House.

Community filmmaking takes many forms — from everyday creative activities for local communities that help people find their voice and tell their own stories, to films about local communities made for wider audiences. Fotis Begklis’ work oscillates across this spectrum, focusing on how filmmaking becomes a shared process that reflects local values and civic aims.

Drawing on recent community-based documentaries in Elephant & Castle and coastal UK towns, and a wide range of community-based projects, this presentation explores: the filmmaking approaches and challenges of collaborating closely with communities, designing community-led story development and negotiating access and trust over time. Fotis will also discuss how these collaborations evolved, the relationships they nurture, and how the creative outcomes feed back into both my academic practice and teaching.

A collaboration between Sonic Screen Lab and Digital Cultures and Economy Research Hub

A presentation of Joe Jackson’s latest research will be followed by, firstly, a conversation with Nadine Persaud  and then, secondly, a group Q+A session. Joe’s presentation argues that the sonic and visual contributions of musician Lowkey and filmmaker Fahim Alam draw from the pair’s own lived experiences as members of London-based communities who are also a part of – or closely adjacent to – the local groups affected by the Grenfell Fire, addressing Anamik Saha’s calls to pay close attention to the ways in which neoliberalism’s material conditions nuance the symbolic content of diaspora-produced media commodities (2024).

In turn, he adopts Ed Kiely and Rosalie Warnock’s notion of ‘institutional neglect’ (and the focus that their paradigm seeks to afford to the precise mechanics which underpin certain forms of austerity-marked violence in Britain, in comparison to broader and more imprecise definitions of ‘institutional violence’) as a lens through which to navigate the manner in which Ghosts of Grenfell and Ghosts of Grenfell II articulate their respective audiovisual representations of the tower and events surrounding the fire (2023).

The event will be chaired by Marco Scalvini and represents a collaboration between the Sonic Screen Lab and the Digital Cultures and Economies Research Hub, both of which are based at LCC.

Funki Porcini’s, ‘The Laserium’ transforms sound into light through a unique, analogue process. Using over 700 laser beams, synchronised with music through vibrating mirrors and transducers, Funki Porcini has created a wholly new, synesthetic experience. Audiences are immersed in an evolving forest of light, colour and sound, resulting in a performance that feels both otherworldly and deeply human. 

Funki Porcini and friends are running an event at Limehouse Town Hall, E14 8HA.

The exhibition then opens out into a sequence of works, presenting McFadyen’s expansive cityscapes and earlier paintings featuring people. Set above ground, these works offer a striking counterpoint to the enclosed spaces of the subway, shifting the focus from subterranean movement to the broader rhythms and human presence of the city.

Highlights include:
 

• A reimagining of the acclaimed 'Underground' series, first created in the late 1990s and brought into the present through this unique collaboration.
   

• The debut of a newly completed work from McFadyen’s Underground series, shown publicly for the first time.
   

• An immersive soundscape by Jem Finer, using field recordings from the Northern and Central lines to bring the Underground to life.
   

• Large-scale artworks of iconic London locations, from shadowy Underground stations to open, sunlit cityscapes.
   

• Captivating artworks such as 'Bank', 'Ghost' and 'Popular Enclosure', capturing both the intensity and calm of the city.
   

• Each artwork is linked to a specific Tube station, inviting visitors to see London’s transport network - and the city - in a new way.

The River Between is an exhibition by London-based artist Shamica Ruddock (b. 1992, London) premiering their new 16mm moving image work, Knock Down Pork Knocker. 

An exhibition by the chapel’s inaugural Curators-in-Residence – the award-winning artists and BAFTA-nominated filmmakers Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard.

MUON emerged in 2023 as a duo project of sound artists and musicians Miles Lukoszevieze and Travis Yu, who met during their studies at the London College of Communication. They bonded over their shared passion for all things ambiguous and the in-between. Hugely improvisational, the project explores interconnected avenues of electroacoustic work, noise, and experimental music. Miles’ emotive and dichotomic soundscapes, in conjunction with Travis’ at times visceral, at times ethereal voice, create a rich and hauntingly reverberant atmosphere. As two distinct emerging artists, they challenge, assimilate, and appropriate the norms of sound making across disciplines and genres, to construct a new set of vocabularies for sonic gesturing through music performances.”

The exhibition runs from February 18th to March 6th, with listening sessions on February 26th (6-9pm) and 28th (4-6pm), and a closing event on March 6th (6-9pm). This workshop is preceded by a Sound Arts Guest Lecture on Thurs 19 Feb which is necessary to attend for participation.

Join Dirar Kalash at At The Sonic Front: it focuses on the relationships between sound, silence, time, space, and their positions and configurations within multiple layers of everyday life and practice. During this workshop, through listening, thinking and mapping exercises, participants explore and discuss questions on solidarity, engagement, everyday practice and activism.

Dirar Kalashis a Palestinian musician and sound artist whose work spans a wide range of musical and sonic practices within a variety of instrumental, compositional and improvisational contexts. Kalash also extends his practice into inter-disciplinary theoretical research. He has produced several solo and collaborative musical albums and is active as touring musician, in addition to that he also created several sound installations, live audio-visual performances, and photography projects. He is mostly known for his politically driven soundscape / electro-acoustic project "The Sonic Front", and the compositions "we can't breathe (for eric garner, george floyd, and frantz fanon)" and "by any means necessary (for Malcolm X)"

Cinelogue provides a collaborative space for film curation, global streaming, and critical dialogue, with a strong focus on the cinema of the Global Majority (people from formerly and currently colonized geographies who make up over 80% of the world’s population).

By presenting critical independent cinema from regions and communities in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceania, Cinelogue seeks and promotes local understanding and inter-regional connections between different films and their makers. In doing so, we aim to continue the legacy of many filmmakers, cultural practitioners, and thinkers from previous generations and their cinematic contributions to anti-colonial movements and solidarity building.

Explore the music and language of Black sonic culture with the inimitable artist, broadcaster and founder of the Black Audio Film Collective.

Description: 

A participatory co-design workshop to collaboratively shape a new Community Garden in the LCC courtyard and ensure its long-term viability as we move to the new building.

The session will bring together students and staff to explore how the courtyard can become a regenerative, cross-disciplinary green space supporting biodiversity, wellbeing, teaching and creative experimentation. Through participatory mapping and collective brainstorming, participants will help define plant types and locations, identify potential project zones (such as a dye and ink garden, living fungarium, carbon-absorbing area, plants for photographic developers, sensory garden, and herb beds), and imagine future uses for the space.

This workshop invites the LCC community to contribute ideas, knowledge and imagination to co-create a garden that reflects shared values of sustainability, experimentation and care - not only for one another, but for the more-than-human world.

Students can browse initial project ideas via this Padlet: however projects will have progressed by April.

However, it may be more useful for them to attend in person, listen to the presentations, and speak directly with the filmmakers.

The project is based on my personal experience of moving homes many times while growing up. In each new place, I would create small “secret bases” for myself inside the house. Because frequent moving made it difficult for me to form a stable attachment to the idea of home, these hidden spaces became a kind of micro attachment where I could feel a sense of safety and belonging.

The animation will be around one and a half minutes long and explores these intimate spaces through visual experimentation and shifting interior environments. Sound will be very important in shaping the atmosphere of the piece, so I am hoping to collaborate with a Sound Art student who might be interested in creating an original soundscape.

The project is still in progress at the moment, but I would be very happy to share some visuals and a short description if any students might be interested.

London-based artist and musician Anneke Kampman presents the second iteration of Her-Modulo, with an evening of informal performances and workings-out by Anna Barham, Anneke Kampman, and Rachael Finney.

Duets [SpeakToMe/I’mListening] plays at the interface between body and device, working until the cassette ends and meets its beginning, or words loop through the mouth.

An autobiography of mis-directed signals, heart-flutters and algorithmic-emotions. Anna will read from her work addictive no an adjective; Rachel will initiate tape-on-tape feedback and Anneke will duet with text-based images laser written onto a CD-R.

Her-Modulo is an ongoing research project by Anneke Kampamn into music technologies and their shaping of culture and desire. 

We are currently at the production stage shooting in Guinea Bissau. 

We have editor and colourist, but we don’t have someone to edit the sound. 

We are looking for someone who is available between 18th April to 1st May. 

It would be appreciated if you can recommend me some of the students who’s doing sound in post-production and want to gain some experience for their showreel because sadly, we don’t have budget.

Developed in collaboration with the local community, the work invites viewers to listen and tune into the rhythms and tones that shape how we move, connect and remember our environments.

The exhibition unfolds through three interconnected themes emerging as key auditory signals through searching for the sound of Hounslow. Themes related to the landscape, skyscapes, transit, ecosystems and musical heritage, each reflect a different part of the sonic landscape in Hounslow and the way we experience place, movement and belonging.'

Another Sky Festival returns to London for its third iteration celebrating the South West Asia & North Africa (SWANA) region and diaspora.

It’ll be an eclectic combination of live electronics, percussion, guitar, tape loops and voice and an alll around exciting evening!

Logline: After weeks apart, a woman visits her girlfriend in a new city. What was supposed to be a cheerful reunion slowly turns uneasy as subtle shifts in affection and faith hint at a hidden psychotic break, twisting intimacy into something frightening.

I am a student on MA Performance: Screen at Central Saint Martins, and am currently developing a dance film project as part of my Unit 3 assessment, exploring the climate crisis and specifically the impact of  global warming on the melting ice and glaciers. Have created a performance dance film that combines footage of the glaciers, with movement and projection. 

I am looking to collaborate with another student who might like to work with found sound and foley of environmental/elemental sounds, to create a soundscape/music concrète inspired piece to go with the visuals. 

The piece is around 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Very excited to present four artists working in the darkest corners of experimental electronic music, on May 21st, at Cu Dalston. @cu_dalston

Zancudo Berraco is the explosive experimental techno alias of Portuguese multi-instrumentalist Henrique Apolinário. A dedicated sonic explorer, he crafts loud, full-spectrum, and fast-paced live sets designed for pure dance-floor catharsis. @zancudo_berraco

aircode is a Swedish producer based in London whose music is typified by dubwise dynamics, sonic capaciousness, and permutable elements of percussion, voice and piano. They have performed across Europe, and put out records on the labels TT (formerly Tobago Tracks), Takuroko, Alien Jams, Gin&Platonic and NHS along with a number of self-released Bandcamp drops. @_aircode_

ex.sses (she/they) is an experimental producer and DJ. ex.sses fuses heavy bass, broken drums and textural sounds, from her resident shows on Balamii and Netil to her guest mixes for NTS, Kiosk Radio she has built a bass led palette of sounds, unconfined by genre. ex.sses’ ties to experimental sound and club culture have since manifested in releases on TT, BAIT, Traverse, glint, Earful of Wax, Cherche Encore and Hard Return and has premiered on DJ Mag, Mixmag and Bad Tips. These releases have gained attention over the years, resulting in dark, club focused DJ sets across the UK and Europe. Her live electronic performances expand on ex.sses’ exploration of noise, textural sounds, poetry and the gendered body. @ex.sses

King Monolith blends noise, dub and reckless sampling to form a chaotic style of dance music; constantly on the edge of collapse into full blown noise. @a_village_idiot

I wanted to reach out about Vyraea, my new live performance & sound art event series launch. The initiative is to amplify femme-aligned artists in development of their time-based, sonic practices. With a focus on intensity, intimacy, and affect in live performance, the programming sits between experimental electronic music and sound art.

This episode is part of a series sharing conversation, stories, creative and education practices from members of one of the oldest staff networks based at UAL, called GEMs (group for the equality of minority staff). Running for nearly 30 years, the network has been dedicated to championing equity and equality for staff and students.

Almiro Andrade was a lecturer in contemporary acting at Wimbledon College of Art and member of GEMs. Almiro is now the head of MA Drama Directing at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

Roshni Bhagotra is one of the four current co-chairs for GEMS. Roshni has worked in higher education for over a decade, she is passionate about access, equality and opportunity in arts education. She is also a practicing multidisciplinary artist.

One private room is available, along with two spots in shared twin rooms (one women-only and one men-only).

Because these are late-availability spots, I’m offering reduced rates (at cost) to University staff & students, which includes the workshop, accommodation, and food for the weekend.

Staff and students are invited to sign up to this day of workshops to explore the potentials of a Cooperative University. Workshops will be led by professionals from existing worker co-ops and alternative education projects to help participants produce speculative models for a university run cooperatively by its students and staff.  

The day will include poster making and speculative writing prompts, as well as exploration of the values embedded in co-creation and anti-extractive, decolonial lenses.

The event, part of LCF's Resonant Matter exhibition, will explore the sonic world of Millie Jackson’s Caught Up and Still Caught Up, offering an intimate listening and discussion-based journey through sound and musical expression led by Eve Dieteren (PhD Researcher in gender and popular music).

I would love to invite you to my upcoming concert at Phoenix Arts Club in the West End, Central London, with my music partner, cellist Santi Lowe.

The show is titled Overcoming Nihilism: When the Stars Refuse Silence.

In this concert, I will be presenting two works from my BA studies: Klein Bottle Dance Film and Possessed from The Last Emperor. The performance is an immersive journey through live music, magic, scent, and audience interaction. When the Stars Refuse Silence transforms the concert and theatre experience into a playful search for connection and meaning.

A week-long residential mixing workshop taking place in Sam Okell's purpose-built Dolby Atmos studio at Zennor Sounds in Cornwall. Sam's recent credits include mixing Daniel Pemberton's scores for Project Hail Mary and He-Man, remixing Beatles classics including Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road with Giles Martin, and Grammy-winning work across major music and film projects. The week focuses on unfinished music: how to hear it clearly, and how to get it there. Radio Music 2 with Tom Whitwell
Housel Bay, Cornwall. November 2026.

A five-day residential workshop at Housel Bay on the Lizard Peninsula, working with radio as both a source of sound and a compositional tool. Led by Tom Whitwell, designer of Music Thing Modular and one of the most curious and inventive voices in experimental music. Participants work with shortwave, AM and FM radios, low-power transmitters, modular synthesisers and lo-fi playback tools. No technical knowledge needed, just curiosity and open ears.
